I have heard good stuff about your trans tuning.
I can’t say I have many complaints with my stock tuning.
I’ve heard later year truck had different shift points than the early years like my truck?
    Is this true?

I also can’t say I drive my truck like most people, so maybe that is why I am ok with a stock tune?
I’m not afraid to put it in 4th gear and leave it there.
I find my truck runs great and is pretty responsive at 2,300 rpm. I tow fairly often and I can’t stand to see/feel the TC unlock/lock. The roads here are full of hills and curves. Even when I am not towing, I find myself dropping to 4th just for the “extra power” and fewer shifts.

Am I putting more wear on my Engine? Maybe
But so is leaving it in 5th and letting the converter lock/unlock all the time.

6 one way, half dozen the other.
I choose to run the engine a bit harder.

Yes! The torque-converter lock-up/'clunk' makes me crazy too. I have been around long enough to remember the first implementations of this "feature". It might have been on the GM 700R4. It felt like an engine miss when it locked..... when it unlocked it felt like a momentary rev increase. Super annoying: especially when earlier GM Hydramatics were very smooth shifters. I traded an automatic 2012 GM product for my Tacoma and I'm assuming it had a lock-up torque converter: If it did, I never felt it. That said: I honestly can't really detect the un-lock moment on my 2014 Tacoma. I definitely CAN detect it on the lock-up and it's worse in the cold months. Warm up makes it less noticeable, but not completely.

The only anomaly in this otherwise superb and legendary Aisin Seiki transmission. (IMO) Considering the reputation for this transmission of long-life, trouble-free service, I can live with it. I was hoping a recent complete fluid change (Totota OEM WS) would help: it did not.

well there is the hardware and software

hardware perhaps you might source parts off of a junkyard motor

but what needs to change to activate it, and enjoy the power?
ECU? Wiring? Coding? What is the cost and difficulty of that in order to gain 10hp...
because if it costs over $1500 then it's not worth it; you can do a motor swap, supercharger, etc.

So, it has not been done before, that's what I'm reading.

    That’s what it looks like.
I don’t think it will ever be done either.
If demand for singleVVT 1GR engines is ever high enough, some one will offer remans.

The ones that are willing to put in the work to make a DualVVT work, aren’t likely going to.

I know a tow truck driver that offers me first dibbs on things every now and then at a great price. I can't get the whole vehicle, but when he offers me an engine, I can take the other components If I need to.

But I still haven't finished building my shop, So everything is on hold until that happens.

I've seen it done on an FJ. Requires swapping everything, body harness, trans, etc. Good luck!

Could you elaborate on "everything" obviously not the body and frame, but I have a manual, so that could simplify a lot.
