Since my neighbour details vehicles for a living and i had an upcoming front suspension install happening soon enough i figured now would be a good time to have my rig all cleaned up.

I then received a nice shipment in the mail from Wheelers Offroad. Sweet! Icon extended coilovers and LightRacing UCA's. :D

Just wanted to level the front for now because i was undecided what i wanted to do to the rear just yet.

even got my friends son to give us a hand..

    and the finished product!

Well now that i had a bit of a lift, some protection and better tires it was time to put all this to use. Hooked up with a local Toyota group called SONTT and did my first trail run and had a blast! I couldn't believe what my truck was capable of.

    But then...

Disaster struck on the way home. Since this is my build thread and i'd like to document everything that has happened to my girl then i suppose i should share this....

Ya, ouch. That hurt. My first ever accident in 15 years came by way of a 50 something year old gentlemen travelling less than 40 km/hr on a major hwy (speed limit is 100 km/hr) at 1:30am looking for a spot to pull over to sleep. Well he could have had used a signal light or had his 4 ways on to perhaps let people know his intentions. I came up over a bend and there he was, yanked the wheel left but caught him regardless.

All in all, final repair bill was $12,000. Truck only had 12,000 kms on the ODO. :(

Now that the truck was fixed, my sister happened to be moving away for school so i gave her a hand..

Of course during that first trail run, i destroyed the rear trailer plug hanging off the back bumper. Horrible design flaw on Toyota part, so i bought a new one and relocated it onto the bumper itself.

Might as well get that pesky low hanging exhaust crossmember relocated while i'm at it. Plus, i gotta make room for ATO armor that's coming. :D

    out with the old
    [IMG]

    In with the new
    [IMG]

Figured a CB would be a great idea for comms on the trail. Mounted whip of the bedrail and a Cobra 75wx st inside the cab. Mic was mounted bedside the glovebox.

Also bought a JVC headunit and URD short shifter off my buddy. What a big difference over stock for both.

So i ordered a High Clearance rear bumper and a full array of skid plates from Armor Tech Offroad and of course this happens a couple weeks before my big trip down there. That yellow post came outta no where at the gas station. lol Guess i should use my backup camera more!

Of course we got a big snow fall a few days before the trip to Virginia and i promptly got stuck...

and last shot of the rear before major cosmetic surgery!:D

Had the same thing happen to me within a week of getting my truck. :D Luckily it was at a lower speed, so no damage. The backup camera is definitely helpful!

haha! lesson learned the hard way. I was at least hoping to get a $100 or so outta this old one to help offset some of the costs of the new replacement.. there goes that idea.

Great looking truck and a very thorough build thread! I like the platform you made for your dogs! Do you have any details on how you made it?

Only the shell is dented, right? You can still sell the tow hitch?

Finally the time had come! I had a week off from work and instead of shipping a pile of armor and a huge HC bumper to Ontario, Canada i figured what i great road trip it would be to meet Mr. ATO himself and see some of the country side all at the same time. Lexington, Virginia's around 12 hours away give or take so but by the time you factor in fuel and hotels, i definitely spent a little more than to ship. But not by much.

Out with the old dent one..

And let the surgery begin!

    Half way there..

    Done!

Got some bracing in there to help stabilize the bed side.

While we're under there, lets dump the exhaust.

And full skid plate protection :D

And all finished! I can't say enough how happy i have been having a super stout rear bumper and armor like this. I guess there's a reason i choose ATO for pretty much for all my offreading needs.

Thank you for the compliment sir. For the platform, i just used some 1/2" (i think, this was 3 years ago) osb particle board and stapled/screwed carpet onto the surface. Cut a couple holes out for the seat anchors, mounted some hinges and called it a day. This has held up great to this very day 3 years later. It's still in the truck 90% of the time.

Yea the shell was the only part damaged. Sold the tow hitch about 2 years ago for $75 and dropped the shell off at a local auto wreckers.

How have you liked the shell and wheeling with it? Any complaints?

No issues whatsoever man. Really happy i went with one. I love sleeping under it while out camping & wheelin and it really hasn't gotten in the way yet out on the trail.

Its coming up later in this build thread but i made a platform to sleep on in the bed but recently decided to go back to spreading out a military type cot back there alone which gives me more room that way. I can go either way though, just depends whether i have female company or not. ;)

If you do get a shell, make sure you get Power Locks with it! It is so convenient.

I did the exact same thing for about 3 months. Never did find anything decent, and i was even considering driving 10 hrs into the States to see if i could snag one. They are really hard to find for a short bed. Keep an eye out though, ya never know.
