Heyy! What’s up from NY? So I guess I’ll start off with a bit of an introduction... my name is Dan and I’m from the god forsaken state of NY #hudsonvalley So before the Tacoma I had a 2012 Tundra and realized I just wasn’t using/ needing all that truck. Sooooo here I am I’ve done a few thing to the truck already before I started to become addicted like the rest of us so I figured since this forum has given me such great ideas and knowledge that I would post the successes and the failures I’ve had thus far and hopefully help someone else out soooooo here we go!

So I picked the truck up on September 29th of 2020. It’s a 2016 Magnetic Grey Metallic Access Cab Toyota Tacoma. Has Graphite w/ Gun Metal for the interior. When I got the truck it had 34,574 miles and currently has 39,121 miles on it now. I paid $30,990.00 This is when I first brought it home...9AAC7646-AE3E-4591-9D7A-124EA5B4BEF1.jpg

My previous truck had a 32 inch light bar in it already so I decided to swap it over to the Tacoma and I placed it inside the grille at first. Deff made driving at night a bit easier. Also had LED headlights from my other truck so I tossed those in as well... and before I hear it... yes... I know... I saw the thread about LED bulbs... I like the look of a clear white output... sorry not sorryE8B8E924-FEA2-4EE5-9242-5615CAC7D62C.jpgD64D8FAC-7C87-4FF5-AD10-58288C46963C.jpg 325CCC50-911F-4419-B66F-5446F623C3F7.jpg

The first things I buy with all my vehicles are a set of Weathertech Matts and Window Vents. Some of the best investments you’ll make. I also installed a remote start kit.. I can’t remember the company that makes them but it was a plug and play kit.. took about 15 mins to install. BC19CBA6-B1AD-4737-963B-6B57F08F4A6C.jpg I only bought the front set of matts because as you’ll see in the next post I already had plans for the rear cab portion..

So finally I decided to tackle the back seat project.. so I have a Dog, his name is Hercules and that’s my right hand paw. So instead of him either having to balance himself in the passenger seat or in the un-even space in the back I decided to make him a platform out of Plywood and 2x4’s before wood became the new gold.B4B54B1A-6873-402B-91BD-BDC0493F22B5.jpgI ended up wrapping it in some cheap ass felt from Walmart and that DID NOT last .It was also very difficult to vacuum so I picked up an area rug from Lowe’s and cut it to shape and stapled it down on top. I also removed the rear seats to give him that little extra room.895A45E8-BD4C-4399-B29D-3D9D8C0FF11E.jpg

So I decided to try my hand at this spray on “Peel-able” Tint for the fog lights and the Light Bar.. never tried it so I figured I’d give it a go.. I went with “yellow” and I also moved the light bar into the lower bumper and make a small cutout to have nothing in the way of the LED bar’s beam9F1F811C-3713-40FA-AA62-EB8B9223B314.jpg So I instantly hated the way it came out, 1000% don’t recommend the spay on. I later went to lamin-x instead. Sooo off it cameA769A1AC-CE29-4C17-A152-42C47CE445EC.jpg

So I snagged a decent deal on a Bug Deflector and at first I didn’t know how I felt about it, but for 30$ local.. can’t complainB0816EE4-2AC4-4DC1-BDD1-54BBC8972C8C.jpg7DC335F3-69BE-43B8-A4F2-0EDF5A7C04E8.jpg

And if you haven’t noticed already.. the Soft Top is unfortunately gone.. I ended up looking into it a lot more and was so distracted trying to get it to stop leaking and turns out when I ran the serial number it was actually for a 1st Gen Tacoma and the people that sold it to me either didn’t know or fully knew saying “we have the same exact year truck” needless to say it was a nightmare to get it to stop leaking so I decided to sell it and I ended up going with another Tonneau Cover (roll up) for now.. hint hint0E1B263D-BB69-481D-89EB-A83C9D3CD0E2.jpgE66F9E29-C68F-4B5C-B1E4-AD1AD4A2C3C6.jpg

Why are window vent cover things a good investment?

Despite the horror stories I hear about roof mounted light bars... I decided to give her a go.. picked up CaliRaised mounts and a cheap 52” light bar off Amazon.. it looked pretty good IMO1279DDFF-3FFD-444B-998C-AE24E2674BFD.jpgE2AAE208-2BB9-4E84-BA5E-03CE6B1237F7.jpg BUT I got this gnarly low frequency vibration off the roof from the wind. I tried all I could possibly try to get it so stop but anything over 30mph it would happen. No it wasn’t just the “whistling” everyone talks about. Also had a good amount of wind noise coming into the cab through the weather strips on the door. Just wasn’t worth it in my opinion. So 4 rivnuts and holes later... she’s now off the truck.

If it’s raining but you still want ventilation you can at least crack your window open a bit more without getting soaked. Also I sometimes leave my windows cracked at work but I leave them up enough so someone can’t try to stick a hanger inside to enter my vehicle.. but thieves will find their way in I suppose, plus I personally like the look

Over! Maybe the market is vastly different there, but I bought a 2016 TRD sport DCLB with 40k miles and 2 years extended factory warranty left that had not been in the rust belt until I bought it for $26.5k in October 2020. Isn't a new access cab sport like $36k right now?

The newest upgrade is the Lamin-x Amber Fog light covers and I also did the light bar to match with the marker lights. I know a lot of people do the “yellow” and idk I guess I wanted to match4CA85DB8-F9C6-4EA7-9374-47FF6B77E628.jpg98352B30-B310-4193-B0A6-6B5F6FA6A61E.jpgF69F4C0C-1A7E-40C0-8A31-5F8D8CF16719.jpgD64C3AE2-3295-49E2-AD38-C88D42B8B6F4.jpg95F0BC48-9E13-4402-9752-7D636BF14392.jpg

Oh well, if you like it and it lasts you as long as you want it to then who cares I guess?

Also, I like your dog. Dogs are the best people!
