One day last year I just stopped going on Facebook. Too many politics, opinions, and things in general to get you fired up. Everyone hates it and yet no one can stop. I had been thinking about getting off for a while but struggled to do so. Then one day I didn't get on all day because of something else I was doing that day. The next day I realized it and thought "well I can keep this going." I only checked it 3 times over the course of the next year. I get on it occasionally now but don't like or post anything or even so much as check my messages. Each time I get on I remember how much better I feel without it and am now able to pretty easily avoid going on there and stay off for long periods of time. The lack of politics and sharing unnecessary posts about your life are the main reasons I love this place. I also still used Instagram but it's easier to control your feed on there and I rarely post.

Smartphones aren't the issue, it's how we use them. Despite the above, I'm still researching the upcoming Galaxy S22 as I'm in the market for a new phone. However, as much as it seems like a dumb phone would be pretty simple for my life, I love having a smartphone. It is so much more than social media. I love having my sports apps, GPS, a camera, internet, and even TV at my fingertips.

If you're worried about tracking, a dumb phone won't solve that. It also won't stop data profiling, etc since there are so many other ways to do that that are everyday parts of our lives.
