OK, you just called me a stupid idiot. That tells me a lot about you. Feel free to just go ahead and assume from this point on that when I make a post asking for someones help, I am not interested in your opinion k?

Hey man. :) Thanks a million for your relative, and genuinely helpful post. I appreciate the input and will keep those in mind when I grab my tires. Loving the Taco so far, but looking forward to getting some better rubber on there. Thanks again!

Thanks akhermit. I hear ya, I always try to drive as conscientiously and safely as possible and I know it only takes one little slip up to ruin your day. Lesson learned for sure. I especially like how you got your point across without resorting to name calling and abuse. :)

Studs are indeed allowed here but I normally just stick to a good winter tire as I find the studs actually reduce traction in wet weather, and our relatively temperate climate doesn't usually drop so low that we see a ton of ice on the roads. We see more rain, snow and slush than anything and I agree, slush is some of the worst stuff to drive in. I can imagine living in Alaska you see it all. I have always wanted to visit and hope to some day.

C'mon, he's just pointing out what everyone else is thinking. You don't like your tires? Driving too fast for conditions? That's fine as long as you don't hurt someone, but be a man and take some responsibility for your actions. Your car dealer isn't a tire salesman. They come with tires, and if you weren't happy it was YOUR responsibility to ask for accommodations or options at the time. Not whine about it later and blame him for creating a situation in which the "dunlops almost killed you".

Ok, I didn't think this needed clarification but apparently some of you aren't going to let this go...

In real life, I didn't yell at the bloody salesman, nor blame him for my situation. I simply stated that I would have liked the option to buy a better tire. Considering almost everyone says these tires are terrible and undoubtedly have given them feedback, I also inquired as to why Toyota keeps putting them on their trucks. I was a bit edgy when I started the thread cuz this had just happened so I blew it out of proportion ok? Holy crap.
In the future I will have to remember not speak freely for fear of being heckled to death but a bunch of laptop warriors and super dads. I honestly didn't realize so many people here would be so concerned with the welfare of my car salesman either but lesson learned.

I'm done with this now. Thanks again to all that helped, the rest of you can sleep well knowing you have beaten this dead horse senseless, and your streets (and car salesman) are once again safe from the plague they call newfieDan.

Let me know what you decide, I'm in the same boat. I've used the ltx ms2 on my previous vehicle, they are very good. Quiet, smooth, and surprising traction in all conditions. There were a several times where I wanted a little more. Considering the Firestone destination AT very soon, because as you said the Dunlops are just plain scary in slush and wet snow. Trying to sell the dunlops on kijiji first, though

my 2010 dcsb sr5 had the Dunlap Grantrek's...I put 30K miles on that truck and never had a problem with the tires. no snow here, but plenty of rain.

my 2012 dcsb sport has Bridgestone's...a better handling tire, probably because of the larger contact patch.

I'll add, the Dunlaps got a few mpg's more than the larger Bridgestones.

Also, it is a good idea to put some weight in the bed. I have 250 pounds of concrete bags in the bed, it makes quite a difference.

This is the first winter with the Tacoma, and the first thing I noticed is that the rear end will fishtail really quick. My previous vehicle was a Ford Escape, primary front wheel drive, so it has taken a lot of getting used to a rear wheel drive truck. Of course in four wheel drive, the Tacoma flat out rocks!

Whichever tires you get, please come back and let us know what you ended up with, and how you like them. It will be very helpful to others with the same requirements.

Don't let it drag you down when people get a little over zealous with their comments. We are all a little different, with different personalities, but we all love the Tacoma, and for the most part friendly.

If you get a chance to come to Alaska, come during the summer, it is absolutely beautiful here. Have a great day!

    Stock for now...
My vote would be the Yokohama Geolander ATS , had a set on my Dakota and they were awesome in all conditions , even mud . Only drawback was they did like to collect rocks .

Piss on the salesman and Toyota in general , I gave one of them a lot of shit the other day looking at all the '13's on the lot with those same stupid Rugged Trails as my '08 . POS stock tires , 'nuff said .

how is it the salesman's fault the new Tacoma doesn't come from the factory with the brand tire you prefer?

want something different than what is on the truck??...negotiate for a different set during the purchase.

Wow, so let me get this straight. "in real life" you lie about a tongue lashing you swear you gave a sales guy and then you have the gall to berate the rest of us who point out how ridiculous your behavior has been. What a sucker for punishment you are ....AND a Newfie to boot!! Jeez, sucks to be you! Maybe next time you won't embellish the story and get some blunt comments thrown your way?

Wow, Newfie's are sensitive. I wouldn't have guessed listening to your music. j/k

I get it, and have done the same. I just assume the tires they put on new cars are price points for the vehicle manufacturer and for they most part they are average at best. If you were closer I'd buy them off you because I'm sure they are fine in MOST of North America, but clearly they suck in snow/slush.

Good luck, and let us know what ends up working for you.

And Chinese. Loggers, millworkers and Chinese.

I'm not sure if I helped.. Vancouver Island is awesome btw. Professionally I'm a big fan of St. Pauls in Vancouver also, have been there a lot for heart valve replacement cases.

So, BC: Chinese, loggers, millworkers, and great hospitals.

I am here and am getting a kick out of the shit storm flying around and that's funny. But then I see this post where CanadianDad turns to mocking someone for where they are from and realize that you sir have gone too far. This is low brow and the kind of attack that is not relevant to this conversation. You started out making a point but then once challenged on said point decided the best way to feel like a big man was to make fun of someone because of where they are from.

Are you using your dads laptop from the playground of your school on a recess break? This is typical behavior from an immature intellect that when challenged on something feels the need to revert to name calling and hurling your own misguided prejudice. Grow the fuck up and be apart of a conversation rather than try to belittle people from your god damn soapbox.

I have lived in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Newfoundland and unfortunately idiots abound everywhere you go.....even the internet it seems. Oz, you and I know BC is the shit!
