I was at Toyota parts department yesterday picking up my front bed rail and thought I'd pick up some stock Door Sill Protectors. The guy behind the counter talked me out of them. Said they are not plastic like most people think, but are thick PVC/Vinyl sticker. For those of you who have either added or they came on your trucks, how are they holding up?

I've seen other after market varieties on the net and here at TW, not sure which way to go?

These from G-Tek Fab are $85 bucks I think? Have not read all 77 pages yet..

    Thanks....

I have the OEM sill protectors and do a lot of hunting, hopping in and out of the truck with muddy and sandy boots. They seem to hold up fine.

They're not some thin vinyl. About 0.5mm thickness and stick on really well. Mine were applied from the factory. Very durable, but also very slippery! Just be careful if you ever do step on them, but they'll do a good job protecting the paint there.
I've since added some anti slip strips on the edges, so that helps with traction.

The G-tek wraps around the edge of the door sill, protecting the edges. Do the 3rd gen vinyl protectors cover the lower portion? The factory one side on the 2nd gen didn't and mine were getting beat up, wearing through the paint and primer to bare metal.

Nope, only one bend from the horizontal part. It doesn't go to the actual rocker portion. Mine are already scuffed and scratched down to the primer there from rocks and crap sticking to the soles of my shoes when I'm out in the field. Just use that protective film stuff like lamin-x there.

I just clicked the link to the G-tek ones and the factory ones look the same.

Theyre thick. My 2nd gen has plastic which I thought was a little better and I definitely wasn't expecting this when they arrived (ordered on Amazon). However, they are nice. Seem to hold up nicely.

I have them on my 2015 and they seem to be holding up great. They are thick vinyl and should last a very long time I would say. I didn't want the hard plastic ones because they will eventually wear through the paint anyway.

I think Amazon had these for about $35 shipped. Factory Toyota also.

I figured they're cheap enough that if they wear out in a couple years, which they probably won't, I can just pick up another set anyway.

Doubt these will wear, unless you wear griptape on your soles. LOL.

These are fairly thick like I mentioned. About 0.5mm. I've also got some of that rubber-like anti slip tape on the edge in the pic. Not the most aesthetically pleasing, but slipping with snow on your shoes isn't fun nor watching significant other slip with 4" heels on.
Function over form on this one...
