Ok so here is the scoop I used to have a 05 Tacoma dcsb I loved that truck but I ended up selling it.. I then purchased a 2007 LBZ ccsb duramax. So I currently have a 07 duramax 04 corolla and 10 Camry.. I drive 80 mile round trip to work about 6 times a month and I use the corolla for this. I am considering going down to two vehicles. I stand to make about $4000-6000 on the duramax got a good deal on it and I can sale the corollafor. It's value. And I am considering going back to a Tacoma or a tundra. The problem with just selling the corolla is that the duramax is just to dam expensive to run all the time I get 15-18 in it. My issue with going to the tundra is is fuel mileage would be not much better then the diesel but it would be cheaper fuel.. My issues with going to a Tacoma is I got an 18 month old and will likely have another baby within a year or two so will the backseat work..
I like my duramax but I don't even tow anything with it.. And up keep is hella expensive. Plus it's not built like a yota... I do a lot of hunting and my duramax is just not made for the woods...
My other issue with taco would be is that I would like to have a travel trailer doent have to be huge just big enough for the family... I thought I would ask u alls opinion since I have done so on tundratalk and duramax forum...

My brother has a 07' DCLB and has a 9 year old and a 7 year old. There is plenty of leg room in the back of the double cab, if that is what you are worried about

Can only comment on the travel trailer. My TT is 5k pounds loaded, pulling here in CO. Won't get there as quick as a diesel but I average 11.5mpg towing and it gets the job done. Feels good towing but wouldn't really want to go much more.

My concern with the kids is having two big ass car seats in there it would nt be all the time because we would use the wife's Camry for trips etc

    Getting there...
Tundras are pretty big too if you ask me. I say sell the Duramax and Corolla and get a Taco. Then add some mods with the money difference between a Tacoma and Tundra. You say that you don't need to tow and that you won't always have car seats in the back, especially for long trips. Then you wouldn't need the Tundra for towing and you still have your Camry for long trips with car seats. Your kids will probably be fine in the back for short trips. And the Taco will be better for navigating the woods. Go for a test drive with your kids and see what they think. Only meh part about the Taco is that depending on the configuration and how you drive, you'll see anywhere from 16ish to 21ish MPG, which is better than your Duramax or a Tundra, but not ground breaking.

Right in my 05 taco on 285's I averaged 18mpg and that's fine by me.. If I buy one I would opt for the double cab long bed Trd sport

Dude get a taco. MPG is great, there will be plenty of room in a DC for kids and plenty of power to tow. It sounds like you rarely pull stuff so thisll get the job done and get you good MPG when you're not. If you wanna keep 2 big ass car seats in there all time time it will suck whether you have a tundra or taco, IMO it wouldnt be that much different. theyre still there.

I pull a 4100 lb boat all the time and it does great. i have a DCLB with 3" of lift.

    Ram Ecodiesel for gas mileage.

    It gets close to 30mpg.

Before anyone jumps and says Rams are garbage, they are nothing like the ones in the past.

Ram Eco diesel 2x4 single cab get that's fuel milage. And I'm not positive but I have read that the tacos only get about 20 tops as mpgs? Yea I understand the diesel is expensive. 4 gallons of oil and pray nothing brakes. Toyota is simple to work on. It's what ever fits your needs. And when you sell the d max hit me up!

    ^ That.

Of the 3, you'd be fine with a DC Tacoma until they're adult sized. Tundra would be a non-issue but most guys I know with them are only seeing 13MPG average, which is harsh.

Ya the tundra would be my number one pick but fuel mileage in those is terrible

I'd get the DC for now, and in 10 years you can reapproach the situation.

    Congrats on fatherhood.
