    Reserecting and old one here:

With 33x12.5x15 with 4.5 back spacing, is the rub on the front fenders, rear or UCAs?

Would camburgs or similar prevent the UCA rub?

Yes. The reason to get aftermarket UCAs are to allow for a proper alignment, improve travel and remove the tire rub against the UCA.

I'm running 285/75's on my truck with 1" lift in the front and a STOCK rear. I have Allpro UCA's and 1.25 spidertrax in the front cause i like the wider stance

Have any of you guys that are running 285s (33) also run 265 at some point? Care to comment on the difference? Not on rub or fitment, but on handling, power, gear ratio and gas mileage.

I was dead set of 265/75R16 Load C Duratracs at 45lbs per tire... but I saw a gen 1 with 285/75R16 the other day and was like salivating. But those are Load E only and 55lbs each.

I do have lighter wheels than stock. Much lighter (16x8 FN Five Star 3.5 Backspacing) 18.9lbs, so I'm shedding around 10 pounds there. But my current street-only 265s weight 35lbs. So with these wheels and the 265 Duratracs, I'll be at the same weight I'm now. If I go 285, I'll be adding 10lbs at every corner.

    Thoughts?

I just put on 285/75/16 with an Icon lift, so about 2.5-3 inches. I haven't aligned it yet, so I can't really speak about the handling. I did so much to the truck in one shot, too, it's hard to compare specifics. I will say it feels like it has more sack, but that could be the new exhaust, and it definitely runs faster and lower RPMs, as bigger tires will do. I'm sure MPG as the wheels are at least twice as heavy as stock. That all said, it doesn't feel like it needs a re-gearing, etc. More photos on my build thread.

I can speak from experience 265/75r16 wont rub with stock rims lifted or not 285/75r16 wil rub the living fuck out of your upper contr arms in 2 different spots on stock wheels or any wheel with 4.5 backspace. 1st pic is 3in lift with 265/75r16 stock wheels 2nd pic is 285/75r16 and 1/4 in wheel spacers and it rubbed the upper control arm bad but it didnt rub the pinch weld 3rd pic is 285/75r16 with SCS wheels that have 3.5 back space no more rub on upper control arm but now it rubs on the pinch weld when it flexs and is turned just right which is much more tolerable

I think if you went with a wheel that has 4.0 backspace it would be better but it wouldnt stick out as far as a 3.5 backspace wheel if thays what matters to you

^^^ This is very interesting to me because my set of FN Five Stars are basically the exact same width/offset/backspacing as your SCS 5-spoke wheels. I have an OME881/Dakar lift which is maybe 2". So whatever I end up at would very quite close to your same results.

Have you addressed the rub on the pinch weld yet? Or will you do something about it?

Since I'm in the middle of purchasing tires, and I'm super torn between 265 and 285 myself... the question would be:

Any regrets getting those 285s? Do you wish you had stuck with 265s?

I have to say, the truck looks sick with those 285s, but that’s from the outside. The driver can’t see that and it might not drive as nice.

I have hammered in the pinch weld and trimmed the fender liner it still manages to rub when turned and flexing, as for the ST MAXX theyre actually very quiet and didnt add to the stiffness of the truck pretty much the only thing I noticed with these tires is I dont get stuck they chuck rocks everywhere and im a little bit higher off the ground

Nice! Did you ever take a reading of before and after MPGs? Just curious as I'm crazily debating 285 or 265 right now. And I drive a lot.

i wanted the 285's but opted for the 265's duratracs. figured id save on gas since ill be driving A LOT of highway miles starting in a few months. after i wear these out (not on yet) ill jump up to the 285's when highway driving miles will lower.

^^^ Good thinking. I worked out 2 MPG less as an estimate going from 265 to 285. At 110 miles per day, half the week in the truck, half the week in a different car, an extra $30-$40 in gas per month at CA gas prices. If it was everyday, then it would be more like $60 to $80 a month extra for running 285s. That's if I'm right about the 2 MPG drop. If it's more than that, then it's out the window.

havent hammered pinch weld yet but i am getting plenty of rubbing on the bottom inch or two of the back fenderwell. wondering if i should go for a 1 or 1.5 inch coil spacer on top of my 3 inch toytec lift even after hammering to get more tire clearance for flexing offroad as well if possible? if i do the coilspacer route, ill prob add 1 inch shackles on the back compared to blocks. definitely read on other threads that going over 1.5 on spacers will start to ruin other parts or angles, wondering if thats a good move or not? thank you in advance for just being a tacoma brother! aloha from maui!
