I am looking at getting a set of 31/1050's for DD, light offroad, and snow/ski trip driving. I have kind of narrowed it down to the GY Duratracs and the new Toyo AT2's. I've found lots of reading on the Duratracs especially on this forum, but not too much on the Toyo AT2 especially in a 31". Most reading I'm finding is on diesel truck forums. Anyone have experience with the AT2's on their 1st gen tacomas? Especially in comparison to the Duratrac's?

    thanks for the opinions

No comparison, but the Duratracs are what you want if you see snow. They are severe service,or w/e it's called, rated, and absolutely rock in the snow. Not sure about the Toyo's, but the Duratracs are the "it" All Terrain for use in the snow.

I've been very happy with my Duratracs. I've got 43,000 on them now and am looking at new ones. Was considering the Toyo AT IIs as well as a lighter, better riding tire. The Duratracs have worn well, are surprisingly quiet on the road, and have been awesome. And, so many people have stopped me and asked "what kind of tires are they".

Recently they have been unpredictible in the wet weather and so they're telling me "it's time". I'll be interested in the feedback you get here.

I put my vote in for the toyo's because I think these are what I'll be putting on when my current plain toyo open country at's reach their end. The at2's have a 65,000 mile warranty on them too.

    Here's a picture I found.

Thanks for the input everyone. Very helpful. In my research I also came across the Kelly safari tsr. They are made by Goodyear and look very close to the duratracs. Sell for about the same as the Toyos. About 165/tire in a 31 1050. Any thoughts on these?

They are almost the same. They just don't have the severe weather label on the sidewall

Just got a set of 265/75 16 Duratrac's yesterday, with some Vision Warrior 16x8 from Discount tire. On the way home got into a snow storm, ran 2wd all the way, for approx 40 miles thru the mountain pass and never slipped once. Quiet and smooth running. They are taller than most 265's and you can get them in a load range C.

I had the Kelly Safaris (265/75R16 Load E) and now im running duratracs (265/70R17 Load C). Pretty much identical on the pavement performance wise and noise. The Kellys were pretty awesome offroad, used them for work (forestry) in all kinds of nasty conditions. They also wore like iron considering the places i took them on a daily basis. I haven't had a chance to test the duratracs in any extreme situations yet but i'm sure they will be just as good as the kellys. Either of these two choices and I dont think you will be disappointed.

So far from what I've read about wear, road noise, and balancing I think I'm leaning away from the Duratrac's and more towards either the AT II's or the Kelly TSR's. Both seem to be about the same price. Hmm....Guess i'll see

I've run Toyos twice on different rigs, Honda Passport and my Taco. Honestly, I don't see them in the same category. Toyos are great on the open road and dirt/gravel roads. For mud and snow you might as well use skis. I'll be putting on Duratracs tomorrow and with the more open tread pattern on the outer edge, I can't see how they won't perform better in mud and snow. That said, Toyos are great at what they are built for which is primarily highway driving.

Interesting I've been looking at new skins.
Though btwn the Trail Grapps and the Duratracs.

Been real happy w the Trail graps that are on the wife's Jk..,
Lots a snow in my area. Found the Duratracs to be better in snow.
And interestingly 14lbs 20% lighter and 70 bucks 20% less per tire.
