I'm looking to get some 31/10.5/15 duratracs for my 99 trd and want the best winter tire I can fit on my stock 15" wheels. I live in Denver co and go snowboarding about every weekend, not fluffy snow stuff, lotta ice. The tires and rims will be swapped out in the summer but also don't want the studs to kill the life of the tire. Are the studs a good idea? How good are these tires on the ice with sandbags in the back?

If you want the best you can get, have them studded. On ice, you're going to want a studded tire.

The best winter tire is a dedicated winter tire. If you have ice, or packed snow, get studded tires.

I got Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT2 Studded for this winter and couldn't be happier: the truck is virtually unstoppable with these on.

Got the studded Duratracs on last night! Size 31/10.50.15. There was alot of hard pack last night and early today, even in 2wd with 250 pounds of sandbags in the back I was barely sliding (normally would have been doing 360s with my old all seasons). Once I threw it in 4wd I could just pin the truck around hardpack corners....badass tires! Really glad I searched around on here before just buying something I wouldn't be happy with, alot of good info on this site.
