Dynapro ATM different tread version 2017

I order some dynapro atm because of how everyone gave these such a great reviews. They were delivered today and I was so excited to have new shoes until I gave them a closer look and noticed there were 2 different sets of similar treads. One pair was made in 2016 with beautiful aggressive lugs on the tread and the other pair were made in 2017 with the wimpy rounded tread. The labels are the same except for a number that may be an item number. Called hankook and they say that the tread was changed slightly but perform the same. Well they don't look same. How am I to explain a return of the correct tire. " 2 have rounder edges the the other 2". WTF Hankook!!!! Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do? I don't want drive on 2 different pairs of the same tires.......

It almost looks like two of those tires are "gently used" if you look closely. The tread doesn't match up. I'd tell them to order you two newer tires.

 

That's what I thought as first but it's actually a slightly redesigned less aggressive tire. Even the tread are different because of the smaller lugs and tread is different. The right is the 2017

 

My issue was looking at the sidewall of one you posted. It honestly looks like it is worn some. I already see that it is at least starting to bloom but this is common with some tires and Hankook does this a lot. They are good tires but I would definitely get with your seller and make them match up whichever two you prefer. I hate you are having this issue.

 

Unfortunately I would return all 4 and choose something else.

 

So would I but if this is what he wants I would at least get two of them replaced. To me this seems jacked up and whoever did this needs to make it right asap.

 

Highly unlikely he will find 2 tires made in 2016 which is the year he needs probably sooner than later.

 

Some of these new tires are unfortunately older than most would think. I always specify a current year build date on mine before I order anything. I learned this lesson many years ago when a new set of tires arrived with a four year old build date. If he likes the 16s he could be out of luck and like you said, returning all 4 is the way to go. There are plenty of comparable tires out there like Cooper and Toyo that are at least this good.

 

Things change... I have had 3 of the 4 Hankook Dynapro ATMs replaced under warranty (flats that were either patched in Mexico or plugged by me). I had a new one put on just this past month and still have the one original from 20,000 miles ago (I am guessing). This was at Discount Tire here in SoCal.

Here is a photo when they first went on. I will look tomorrow at the newest one.

 

OP it sounds like this mixup could be working out for you. Maybe consider taking back all 4 and getting something else. The Cooper AT3 and ATW are good tires as are the Toyo AT2s when looking at tires with comparable tread designs. The Falken Wildpeak AT3W has a loyal following here too. Best of luck to you!

 

Whoever sold them to you should have sent you 4 matching tires. The new version looks like a bootleg version.

I remember these pics. Your post/pics about the rf10's are what sold me on getting these tires. I guess mny problem is mail ordering tires. Yes a got a deal but now I have to deal with issues. I'll have to wait until Wednesday and see what can be done. Thanks guys for your help.

OK amigo... My newest Hankook is looking just like your new ones, a bit softer edge, a bit less pronounced side detail. I have three old style sidewalls and one new style, now. This change just happened this year.

So, you did not get used ones... just a more recent edition. I am sure they will perform fine... as it is our Tacomas that do most of the work!

 

I'm way too OCD for that - give me 4 matching ones or my money back!
