I will also add test parameters to view normal driving for daily and the lead foot variety. As stated, I want to be as comprehensive as possible. I will list the fuel used and where it came from.

I was just wondering if you dyno tested an Ovtuned truck plugged and unplugged, what the difference might be.

Being that all the testing will be on the same day, those aspects won't matter as your ecu works with the O2 sensors to account for those changes and keep the truck running at optimal performance. But I can post those as well. They are issues for carburetors and O2 sensor delete engines.

No, this will be a stock engine. Being that a tuned ecu has changed parameters, I'd caution from this type of testing on that end. Now, if this does yield any gains, it would lend to new tuning options for OV. This is simply a "myth buster" style test on a stock engine.

yes, I've tried them all and am currently on 19800 and it has really made my truck drive better in all aspects. but I still couldn't run 87 octane without a lot of stutter. The stutter was still slight on 93, but non-existent with the ACIS disconnected

Is the ACIS normally open or closed with the engine off?

According the the pdf on this motor, when it is closed, it provides better power in the low rpm range with medium and high load (initial take off, 2nd gear low rpm, up hill). And opens when in all other conditions (high rpm high load, low rpm low load)

So if unplugging it leaves it closed all the time, that tells me it will benefit everything except high rpm pulls and low rpm cruising.

I personally can't stand that stutter and jumpiness and would be willing the loose some top end power for smoothness. I may try it.

If I remember my simplified engine airflow studies (from years ago) you want long intake runners during low RPMs and short intake runners during high RPMs. It would stand to reason that if the "Motor" is Closed at low RPMs then "Closed" means "in the condition of having long intake runners". Do I have that correct?

Too much variation on dynos (on the same exact vehicle), to try and gauge the benefits of an air filter.

Won’t be very accurate, I’m afraid...

Matt at OVtune needs to tune the Atkinson cycle out entirely. That nonsense never caught on because its complicated, expensive, and has little benifit. It's like the rotary. If it was any good most cars would be Atkinson not otto, as it was invented in the 1880s. This is clearly just an ignorant PR stunt to appease the asshat hippies over at the EPA. Without going TT there is pretty much no other way you can get MORE fuel efficiency from a 3.5L NA V6 without sacrificing something. Read up on why Atkinson engines werent adopted. It's very similar to the rotary. More complex, more expensive, more maintenance, and less powerful. Just make it so it runs in the otto cycle indefinitely, problem solved.

I wouldnt be shocked to see some pretty goofy and inconsistent dyno runs on this 3.5 as its prime directive is to be as efficient as possible. Hense why stock ones run terrible, since the toyota engineers thought making its transmission fight to keep 1200 engine RPM at all cost, was more important than drivability/safety and driver confidence.

Im going to update this with my experience today. I read this post/and the one in the what did you do today thread at 3 am. When i left for work at 4 am i opened the hood, unplugged the connector and drove to work.

My commute goes straight through downtown, stop and go at red lights before hitting the interstate.

Shift from 1st to second (MT) is smooth as hell. The rev through first to 4k is flawless, the 3500rpm surge is completely gone. Accelerating up hills no longer has that lunge to it. Rev hang seems to be completely gone below 5k, Above 5k it is still there slightly but not nearly as bad.

Before in 6th at 60-70 on the interstate, accelerating up a hill, it would lunge a bit, almost like a misfire, This is gone completely.

On my commute home, i took a different route, one that i knew would have stop/go, accelerate, decelerate.

I can tell you that this was the best the truck felt. Every shift was smooth. I could rev up to 4k without a surge, shift to 2nd or 3rd with no problem. Revs fall quickly, revmatch on downshift seemed better as the throttle response was better. This however is still not perfect as throttle by wire is inherently slower. Also, the low gas pedal is a bitch.

I like to take off from a stop on downhills in second gear, because lazy. Before, this would buck, lunge, surge, it was horrible. Today, perfect, no problem at all.

I do feel like i lost some top end power, above 5k, but i dont care if i lost 50hp/tq at this point, its freaking smooth, i enjoyed my commute today much better. And how often are you flat out to redline anyways?

I just need a couple of block off plugs to keep the wires from corroding away. Thanks OP. Cant wait for the dyno results

Need to do my accumulator hack to make the best of this.

(My commute is 18 miles one way, through stop, go, cruising, interstate and hwy)

completely stock, nothing has been modified. No OV tune, no ADM, no exhaust, no intake. 100% stock
