Love ours. Yeah the cord is a bad design but as good as this thing works it's just a minor drawback. Dc17 ftw! I've mowed through all kinds of stuff with it and it keeps going. Use it daily on carpet, rugs, and hardwood. I know what you mean about it following you when using the hose but it doesn't botherme that much. We've had ours about 5 years now.

    I like ours.

Not sure if anyone else touched on this yet as I haven't read all the way through. but vacuuming with the chord still wrapped is a big no no. It can generate heat and start a fire. Just like using a 100ft extension chord to span 5 feet and leaving the extra 95ft coiled.

When me and my wife got married she had 3 cats and I have an inside long haired dog, needless to say I was CONSTANTLY repairing our cheap Bissel or whatever Wally World brand we had. The rollers would always bind up with pet hair and burn up. I got so sick of fixing them every time we vaccumed the floors so I decided it was worth it to spend 3-4 bucks on a good vac, so the search began. I looked hard at the Dyson's and was close to pulling the trigger as I had a 30% off coupon from Kohls and they were on sale so it would have been way less than I could find anywhere else. But during my research and after looking at them in person I noticed the rollers on them looked the same like the Wally World brands, I wanted something with metal bearings to avoid the problem I kept going through. I eventually ran across the Simplictiy and have been happy ever since. This thing is amazing, so amazing in fact I dont ever use my Shop Vac anymore, when I clean the vehicles I drag this unit outside, It has way way more sucking power than the Shop Vac, has the metal roller and NEVER get hair wrapped around the roller like the others did. It cost about the same as the Dyson's but IMHOP it is better made. I haven't used a Dyson but we love this unit and have had no problems with it in 3 years. (Knock on wood) It does have a bag instead of the cannister, but I now like it better, less mess, just pull the bag off throw it away and pop the new on. With the cannisters it seemed like a mess every time when emptying. The bags last a couple months before full and this unit is fairly light weight. It is very easy to manuver as it seems to pull itself, it's not self propelled but seems like it. I highly recomend them.

Dont pay attention to the price tag on the mfg pic, you can get them about half that, or at least I did.

I always take the cord all the way off the "hanger" so that's not an issue when trying to use the hose.
Expensive - yes, but it does better than other vacumns I have had and there are NO expensive bags to buy.
I will deal with the quirks since it does the job very well.

The only thing I really don't like is the way the hose doesn't stretch very well, but I like the machine, so.....

I have a Kenmore and it works quite well. I also have a lab/newfie mix that sheds all year round even in the dead of winter when its -20, so the vacuum has seen some use.

Vacuums are a fairly simple machine and have been around for awhile, why can't they just make one that is perfect?!?!?! i have had trouble with all my vacuums whether i spend 100's on them or find the cheapest one at walmart.

I put a well used goodwill Hoover thru it's paces years ago. Used it in the house for 4 yrs till my then-wife bought a spendy Eureka, that POS lasted about 2 years till it was tossed in the dumpster. During the time of the Eureka, the Hoover was down in the shop pulling up oil-wet cat litter,
huge pile of spilled Daisy BB"s, gravel and grit on the shop floor, spilled nuts and bolts, big chunks of splintered wood and sawdust, whatever I could throw at it. Brought it back up out of the shop and back in the house, cleaned it up. Ran and worked awesome till the day we departed.

I paid $15 for it at goodwill, sure wish I could find another one.

Mom has always been a lifelong customer of the alum bodied Kirbys with all the attachments, and I have to admit they do a good job and last long as well.

The Hoovers are good quality, as well as the Kirbys, all the rest are wannabee's. (Eureka!!,, we struck gold,,we got your money sucker!!)

We recently got this DC23 Animal Vac, but its a canister style rather than the upright. It came with about 5 attachments including hardwood floor, carpet, stair tool, furniture and curtain toll, crevice tool.... We have hardwood floors in every room except 1 bathroom so the upright just didnt make sense for us. So far i like it, Seems to be on par with or better than our old Kirby Platinum that was a hand me down. and it weight about 1/2 as much, i would say this thing weights 10-12 lbs

Do you think it's worth the $$? I have an upright Dyson, but am considering one of those to pick up the dog hair (thanks Annie) on the tile.

i do not think that i would have got it if i had to pay full price. we had a credit at Macys from our wedding registry and we were out of things to buy, we ended up paying about $60 out of pocket, you can prob find it for under $300. it comes with a decent carpet attachment so you could get this and prob sell your upright. i wouldnt buy it if you plan on keeping both and using this for just the tile
