Hello all. I've been scratching my head about an issue involving my brakes. I purchased a 04 Tacoma from a local dealership a couple years ago. It had 59000 on it with one owner. The current mileage is 78000. I don't know if its my imagination or what but everytime I've had it in for service I have told them that I felt that the vehicle was dragging due to a parking brake issue. So, the first time about 66000 miles the dealership adjusted the parking brake. I was assured by the top service man that it was fixed. I then went in for a power steering pump issue that had to replaced and also had an issue with pulling to one side while driving. Brakes were checked again, all was said to be in working order. I currently have it in the shop due to the parking brake light staying on. I'm now told the bell crank is sticking and that it has to be replaced, along with having the drums turned. I'm more than mechanically inclined to pull the drum clean it up have it turned and replace the bell crank, but I have a extended premium warranty 10/100,000 mi and really don't feel like spraying brake cleaner and such around my garage. Corporate in Torrance,CA passed me onto Fin Services who handles the warranty and they said that the bell crank was covered but not the labor. If anyone could help me with this issue please respond,if you have had to deal with such an ssue. Thank You.

What exactly do you need help with? The warranty issue or fixing it yourself?

Not sure, but the bell crank sticking is relatively common amongst at least the 1st gen Tacomas and previous gen Tundras. They were frozen solid on my 02, but with a little persistance and a lot of penetrating lube, I was able to free them up.....didn't have to replace anything.

Same thing with my 98. I removed the pin and sanded down the clevis and then reassembled.

    Nick13,
You will NOT get all of that covered under warranty.....Even with my frame swap that became a "sticky point"...luckily the "Tech" had "prepped" it with penetrating oil and the parts inside the drum moved while Toyota covered everything beyond the backing plate....
Mine was no where near rusted as yours ( living in NH,it gets "sprayed" at LEAST once a year)....
The "fine" print in those contracts is a PIA,but you will find it too be parts only....
