    Hi

I have a 2004 4x4 and the E Brake handle is not disengaging all the way. I properly disengage the E Brake but the brake light on the dash will remain on because there is a little play once the E brake handle is pushed in. I can push the handle in about a cm (very easy to push with just one finger) and the light will go out. If I hit even the smallest bump in the road, the light will come back on. I push the handle in and it goes out again. I had the same problem on my first Tacoma. (Bought both trucks with this problem).

Does anyone else have this problem and if so, can I fix it myself and how?

    Thanks in advance!

Mine was doing the same thing for awhile. We I got it it the air, I found that the parking mechanism on the back of the drum had become siezed from corrosion. I took it off and soaked it in PB Blaster and finanly got it to move freely

subd. Mine does it in the winter time and not the summer so I'm thinking a lil lube on the spring/cable should fix it.

The problem is a part called a "bell crank". This is the part at the end of the e-brake cable going into the back of the hub. There is a rubber boot that is suppose to protect it but it holds mud and salt which makes the parts not rotate properly from corrosion. My 86 Toy truck and 95 Tacoma both had this problem. The best fix for this problem is to replace the part.

Ok. Just did mine. Getting 12-18 clicks so it was within tolerance. Found the spring under the drivers door and hosed it down with pb blaster.
pulled the e brake a few times to work it in and VOILA!!! Works perfect!!!!

    Thx cmack. Rep for you.

Just did mine tonight. Some lubrication to the spring and worked the spring by hand for a little and now the handle fully disengages without any problem.

Thanks cmack. Great post. Just like Matic said, rep for you also.

CMack or anyone else out there. Do you know how to adjust the e brake cable so that it tightens the handle? I am getting like 20 clicks when I pull the handle and thought I was supposed to be getting 12-18 clicks when I engage it. If anyone can tell me how to adjust this, would be appreciated. thanks
