Hey, I have always wondered, for the MT owners out there. Do y'all like the placement of the E Brake on the 2nd Gen? When I get me a new Taco I want it to be a MT and can go for either the 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen. I prefer buying a 2nd gen to save some $$ and preference. But the 3rd gen has the e brake next to the shifter which is far better. Having owned a Ranger MT the e brake was located in the floor board like traditional trucks. My past tacoma was an Auto and it was ok but really hind sight would have preferred the MT. But for some reason i cant get over the stupid e brake placement. My question to y'all is, does it bother you? Would it be possible to modify the E brake to be like the 3rd gen e brake? Thoughts or have yall done something similar?

I wish mine was next to the shifter.

It was down by the pedal on automatic Tacomas starting awhile ago, 2005 I believe. They kept it in the traditional Toyota location on manual transmission trucks presumably so you can easily do e-brake starts on very steep slopes when wheeling. It's the way Toyota has been doing in on their trucks for decades and it's awesome. Although you can still do e-brake starts with the handle in the new location, I'm disappointed to hear that they've moved it as it was a defining feature of Toyota pickups.

I chalk this up to creating uniformity across automatic and manual trucks (I see they are now in the same location once again), the disappearance of bench seats, and perhaps an overall trend of consumers shying away from things they're unfamiliar with and demanding uniformity with other cars they're used to driving (see Tesla having to make software modifications so their cars creep forward when you take your foot off the brake despite there being no mechanical reason for this to happen).

The new e-brake position is better for drifting :burnrubber:

But I too prefer the traditional position for the manual e-brake.

This is my first Taco and I was kinda surprised at it's location. I don't hate it though. Don't really have an opinion. It was kind of a "hmm this is new" thing for me. It works good with the Taco, I'd hate it on a sports car.

It doesn't bother me in the least. But that is because I drove several trucks for several years with the e-brake in that location. I have had my 3rd gen for about a month and a half now, and I still occasionally will punch my dash reaching for the e-brake.

I have a 2014, manual, it's the same as my old T-100 so it's just fine for me. I have the console mounted one on my Corolla daily driver. When I do clean the interior, it's more crap to clean around on the console.

I like my taco parking brake location just fine.

seems to work great on the 2nd gen. Really holds the truck well with only a little tension. I like it, personally.

I hate where it is on 2nd gen. I also hate it on the floor. One of the few things gen 3 got right

I like it in the dash, not on the floor or taking up space in the middle.

I like it where it is up out of the way. Less stuff to take up space in the center console area.

When I had the manual I liked the position and style of the e brake. Toyota has been doing that forever. On my auto I'm indifferent to the floor e brake. It's easy and convenient. I will say I like having the extra cubby where the e brake would have been.

I like the traditional location (on the counsle right of steering wheel). I hate floor e brakes. I think the new location is correct for cars.

I wish it was on the center console in the 2ng gens. I hit my knee on it at least once a week.

I've alwsys recalled every MT Toyota truck having cane handle Ebrakes. It works just fine for me. I wonder why they decided to relocate it ?

    I dono yet...
I want to revive this conversation as it’s been a couple years and I absolutely hate it in the dash.
Has anyone played with the idea swapping the 3rd gen center console to be able to have the console brake?
Has anyone had any other ideas on how to relocate it?
