I attempted to install a E&G Classics billet grill today on my 2017 and got stumped. The new grill has three tabs across the top that evidently are supposed to go between the outer surround shell and the bezel.

Here's the back side of one of the tabs. It cannot sit flat against the surround unless these little sections circled in yellow are removed.

However, even if I were to do that, the bezel will not sit as flush as it normally would because it will be spaced out from the shell by the thickness of the E&G tabs across the top only.
Has anyone else installed one of these grills? What did you do?
I'll contact E&G when I get a chance but thought I'd try to get some Tacoma World guidance too.
    Thanks!

The instructions are actually quite detailed about everything else, but not this. In fact, there's no mention of trimming off tabs or cutting of any kind. As far as I can tell, if I don't do that, the top of the bezel will stick out a good 1/4" while the bottom would remain in the factory location.

I chatted with Lee at E&G and after explaining the situation he suggested using a Dremel to remove the offending plastic as shown in my original post. So I did that as well as shaved down the three mounting locations across the top of the bezel. Fits great now. Lee said he would talk to management about updating the directions.

Here's one taken after my hood swap last weekend. Also, I'm in the process of stripping the chrome off of my grill emblem and will paint it MGM then reinstall it on the grill so there's less of a big black hole look.20170802_125448.jpg 20170729_160451.jpg

Looks tight man. I was thinking about color matching my emblem too. FWIW, I painted the chrome surround on my 06's grill (SR5) and I didn't remove any of the chrome, just scuffed it, hit it with adhesion promoter, primer, paint and clear. It held up for a couple of years with no issues. Let us know how yours turns out.

One last question, did you plastidip the chrome bezel?

Nope, I ordered a black one.

I considered scuffing the emblem but wasn't confident that I could get into the smaller corners good enough to make it right. So I'm soaking it in bleach. It takes a while, but the chrome is almost all gone.
