Hi there I am having an issue with my 2004 Tacoma I recently got in an accident that bent my axle housing and after replacement I have not been able to get the locker to disengage. I have had issues with it not engaging before so while the axle was out I decided to clean and re grease the gears for the locker motor witch has fixed things before. I have not done too much in the way of diag. but have pulled the motor off the housing and had someone push the button as I looked to see if the motor was doing anything which it was not. was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything like this in the past of if anyone could point me in the right direction for possible fixing this issue.

Pull the cap off and make sure the magnets didn't come unglued.

all magnets were in place pulled the entire assemble apart today everything seemed to be ok other than lots of corrosion on all the parts cleaned it up and still not working. I have power to the motor but motor is not spinning. seems to me like the motor itself is dead unless there is something I am missing here. it seems weird that when I pulled the diff out to put in the the new housing it was in the unlocked position and had been there for some time (about 2 months) and now all of a sudden it is locked. I still think the motor is bad because it wouldn't engage last time i went up wheeling which is what lead me to pulling it apart and cleaning it when I had the axle all apart which solved the not engaging issue I had last year.

is there any way of manually disengaging the locker at least as a temporary fix to get it driving without wearing my tires I have a long commute and have been using my dads truck while my parts were coming in but his truck is about to need a trans so really need to get my truck working at least enough to drive it until I can get the parts to fix it the right way.

Yeah, there is. Pull the actuator off of the axle and you will see a rack with teeth on it. Take a flat screwdriver and pry the rack to the driver side of the vehicle. It may help to have the wheels in the air and in neutral to do this. To make it even easier to you might have to lightly wiggle/rotate the wheels back and forth while prying to release any minor friction.
