Hey guys I need some help figuring something out for my 99 tacoma so I have a TRD truck the axle is an e-locker but my vin code reads B03A and I’m needing to replace my axle bc it got tore up by the previous owner so I have a temporary one on right now but I wanted to know if a 4Runner axle with elocker would work and if the axle code matterd or does it strictly have to be off a Tacoma with same code???

You'll have to use the same gear ratio or you'll fry your transfer case. If you don't have have 4WD you should be fine regearing. If it's a 3rd gen 4Runner (1996-2002) it should fit right up someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You wouldn't need to replace he whole differential - only the 3rd member.

I wish it was that easy for me but unfortunately the previous owner when he tore it up he scraped it and put on a open diff axle with 4:30 and not 4:10 like it should be but Thanks for the advice bud

Are you talking about a complete axle from a 4runner as in housing, 3rd member, and axle shafts? 4Runner axle would be a pain to convert to be mounted on leaf springs - way easier to just get a Tacoma housing. If you're talking about axle shafts, don't try it unless you feel lucky. I bought a 4runner axle shaft to swap into my 01 elocker housing and even though the length and spline count are the same, the bearings are different sizes and in different positions on the shaft. Didn't realize that until the axles were all torn down. PITA.

Why don't you tear it apart and see what actually needs to be fixed? It could be as easy as replacing the 3rd member...

Yeah I thought it would work but I reckon not due to the different mounts and Thanks for sharing what you know I’m just trying to get my truck fixed ASAP but I would tear it apart but I don’t have it anymore the previous owner scraped it and put on a different one with open diff and 4:30
