    Debatable.

You should talk to the farmers who hate it as it hurts them.

Please elaborate. How does passing legislation that requires more corn production for ethanol; hurt corn farmers?

There are literally zero local stations that have any non ethanol gas here in socal. There are a few select specailty race shops that have gas but we are talking 2-4x per gallon more. I treat anything that goes in the dirtbikes / motorcycles (all of which are fuel injected) with enzyme treatment to help the E10 from not causing harm / varnishing.

Station around the corner is 0% ethanol, ran it for about six months in 5VIN 1GR-FE and JVIN, both times there seemed to be a slight increase in gas mileage, but that could be just random.

Here no ethanol gas is about $0.20 more. So not that bad, few bux per fill up.

Found going back to old 10% 87 octane ran smoother.

Could also be that the engines were used to 10% 87. I read somewhere years ago that 87 was recommend for FJ's. (my JVIN came from an FJ)

So knowingly filled it with a gas that the cap said not to use.

Well I used to think it was only a good thing until learned from my previous boss, who's family farms, that ethanol fuel really hurts everyone.

Not every type of corn is eligible, you have corn for feed, corn for ethanol, and corn for consumption. I don't personally understand the difference but apparently there is one.

The government subsidizes corn for ethanol... therefore why would you not grow that one since it makes the most money? So because of that farmers who buy corn for feed now have to pay substantially more and therefore they have to charge substantially more so basically most food becomes more expensive.

So the majority of people are hurt by it, only a few people benefit from it, it's completely negligible on the amount of greenhouse gases that it reduces, and even still you have to burn more gas because you don't have as much power... AND it's really not good for engines.

So the sooner we get rid of ethanol fuel the better. I already felt this way before learning all of this from my previous boss but after that I want it gone even more.

My MPG sucks until I regear, I'll try it again, I'll run highest octane the 0% ethanol station has for a few tanks. See what it does. Gonna take a while, I'm about half a tank right now. Don't drive it as much as I used to, lol! Maybe 100 miles a week. At 200 miles a tank... Taking a 120, mile, each way, road trip this weekend was planning on taking the white truck, taking the black one instead, don't think will give any results since will be pulling a trailer...

Longest trips a usually take are to the fishing camp, about 70 miles each way, went last weekend, didn't notice miles.

I need to do more fishing anyway, I'll try make some trips in the mean time :)

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Yeah. I kind of did it without looking because the price was less. After I filled up I realized the cap said no E15 and my thought was that it was already in there and what difference could 5% really make? That and I knew I would be burning through it in a day anyway so I went with it. I haven't done it since and won't do it again. But like I said, maybe my real question is what difference is 5%? It can handle 10%. Maybe Toyota is just being conservative with their numbers? Maybe Kwik Trip just labels it E15 to differentiate their gas from E10 and it is really like E11 or 12?

Anyway. Just wondering. I have my answer.

By law here 10% is Max.

And I feel Yah, from 2006 to 2008 I (this Tacoma) worked Catastrophe response, month or 2 would go by, not much then something happens, 100+ miles a day going where ever you had to. In 2009 until 2011 I switched to emergency response. Average 75 miles a day to and from work, then Deep-water Horizon, add 15 miles each way to and from command center 3x a day to catch helo's at PHI for recon.

Joined the real world after that.

She did her service like a champ!

Back then it was hard to have a normal life... Phone rings... You leave... Have to be prepared and carry what you need in case for 2 weeks your on your own. When you come back... Could be a week, longest was about 10 months. But you get to help alot of people who literally have lost everything.

Company I was working for at the time got contracted by BP to do RECON. I approached it like RECON for a CAT. You grid off the affected area. You dispatch all personnel and resources needed to scope every inch of the affected area. Then process all reports from your team, photo, video and drone footage daily, and submit an action plan for each, resource and team the for following day. ASAP! Usually, the first week running a team you work 20+ hours a day, sleep about 2 if lucky. Worry about expenses and dealing with other BS later. The difference between CAT's and government emergency response is that FEMA has what's called "ICS" Incident command structure. Meaning, in an event like Deepwater Horizon, (as stupid and money wasting as it is) every position has to be held by 3 people. One person from the company involved, one person from an armed forces agency representing FEMA, and one representative from the contractor actually doing the work.

Lol, I ran with like a mega-CAT, had drones and helo's in the air at all times when conditions permitted, hired government contractor "AVWatch" and ignored EVERYTHING the US Coast Guard officer who was the FEMA rep told me. But we got it done! My team, approx. $128,000 per day!

Literally, this is 100% true, the pencil pusher USCG assigned as my clone tried to put a haul on my team until he could get a grasp on what was going on. Almost cost me my companies contract. I ignored him. He filed a report with USCG New Orleans.

In the mean time, the USCG had commandeered a US privately owned ship in The Gulf of Mexico for not following proper cleanup proceeder..

I mean boarded, took over, parked in there yard.

The Governor came to the command center, called a meeting with the representative of the company that owned the ship, the US BP representative, and the USCG New Orleans Commander the time, Commander D*****t.

During the meeting, I politely excused the interruption and said I needed to give a report to the Commander. And handed him a folder that contained every movement of the vessel of concern for that last 7 days, including close up pictures of every crew member on the vessel taken by my fast response boats, close up pictures of tags, even pictures of equipment on the boat.

It was in my RECON grid.

USCG (FEMA) left us alone after that. Actually altered the FEMA ICS protocol.

We were issued Hero Coins. This Tacoma had alot to with this. Literally sunk it several times in the first few weeks getting to where we had to be.

Our engines do not support any ethanol content over 10%.

The side effect is horrific gas mileage and you trash your fuel and emissions system.

The poor gas mileage you get from high ethanol fuels is so significant it can actually be more expensive to use it.

So you don’t like ethanol. I don’t like ethanol. However, this does not invalidate my premise: The politics dictates a continuation and a soon to come increase in ethanol for fuel production. Politicans (in Washington and local) support ethanol for the farm votes. As long as ethanol from corn is popular with the vast majority of corn belt farmers it shall continue to consume 40% (and rising) of the annual US corn crop.

To save money, I normally throw in a bottle of listerine with every tank. Not only does it save me a few cents at the pump, but it makes my exhaust smell minty fresh.

Yes I know that unfortunately this is the way it works no one wants to look at things logically in Washington most of the time... I really do wish there was something we could do about it.
