Hey i've run an old iron duke kohler powered garden tractor since the early 70's made to run on non ethanol gas, yet its run on everything from fuels containing mtbe to e10 ethanol, and its still running never apart.

Are you sure your gas cap accepts up to E20?

The caps I've seen have a ban symbol for that fuel.

Revived idea from the 1970s under Jimmy Carter. Back then it was called gasohol. Gas stations would have a single pump dedicated to it. The people who tried often ended up in the shop with fuel system related problems. It quickly disappeared once it started getting a bad name. MTBE gasoline was introduced to replace leaded gasoline. That was due to emissions as the lead would destroy catalytic converters by coating the catalyst making it ineffective and clogging it. That too caused a few problems as engines designed for leaded gasoline didn't perform well as the lead was used to lubricate parts of the fuel system, if I remember correctly. MTBE gasoline was known as unleaded back in the 70s and 80s.

We all may have no choice but to run e15 if gas prices continue to rise. From what i gather its suppose to be cheaper....on the other hand you get poorer fuel economy that their not telling us.:frusty:

It's not harsh to current materials. I've ran e85 in vehicles for 20 years.

The ecu pulls timing based off detonation, not ethanol content and why it's safe to run any octane fuel.

We've had e10 grade fuels since they eliminated mtbe in the gas decades ago. I can get better fuel economy when i'm up in vermont using their ethanol free gas, so i can guess what e15 will be like. As far as any other issues with our current e10 fuels...there haven't been any.

E10 was a big issue for folks that I knew on the motorcycle and marine side. Lots of deformed tanks or trashed fuel systems. Yes. The products should have been designed better, but . . .

In the end, I would still favor E0 any day of the week. Ethanol production, transportation, lower energy, and damage are way worse than E0.

Yep, using e10 i had to replaced the fuel pump in my older 15 hp outboard with one of newer components resistant to ethanol, the pickup in the outboards fuel tank rotted off due to ethanol. As far as my 2 stroke dirt bikes i raced, the engines were all built to run B32 phillips race gas at the time. Even 100ll av gas worked decent, but required different jetting.

Was an issue pre e10. I've ran e85 in early 90s cars without issue. It's like race fuel and run it in my turbo and high performance cars. Love the stuff.
