I agree that for the most part no two tanks are equivalent and observed fuel economy will be all over the chart.

Observations aside, E 10 has less energy than 100% gasoline per gallon, therefore more fuel will be consumed using E 10.

    I paid $4.50 for 87 octane E10 yesterday. :pout:

Not if you have a gm flex fuel sensor. It detects the e content and adjusts the AFR and timing maps according to how you set them. E also makes power I'm a wide AFR range. So like in my CTS-V I can tune it exclusively on e without a sensor and it's safe between 60-85%.

Yeap. Loss of fuel mileage but can make insane power.

I understand what you're saying. Yes, that's an old picture. I'm paying around $4.50 a gallon for regular now.

So explain why I get best mpg and most miles out of a tank of premium vs when I use regular my trucks ECU doesn't make adjustments I get ping or knock , shitty mpgs , and least amount of miles per tank at sea level . Educate me.

Same here. Wouldn't surprise me if the cost of gas goes higher.:frusty:

this is a little bit off topic, but I work on small carbureted engines as a side job...

I absolutely love ethanol in gas!!!

I've had so much business rebuilding carburetors and fuel systems since ethanol is in almost all of the gas around here. LMFAO

I've even run ethanol gas in one mower and non ethanol in an identical mower. after maybe 10 tanks of gas, the ethanol mower always needs the carb sprayed out because the white corrosion clogs up the brass jets and builds up around the float hinge.

eventually the whote crust builds up to where spraying out the carb does not remove it and i have to run wire through the jets. usually a complete carb disassembly and cleaning is necessary.

it happens in about 1/4 the amount of time in comparison to regular gas.

using seafoam regularly keeps a carb clean with regular gas. with ethanol gas, seafoam doesn't prevent the white crud.

The fuel btu content is the same between 87 and 93 however the ECU vehicle can use it more effectively.

Old cars didn't have the ability to control the timing dynamically, we set them as advanced as we could without knocking and that compromise was the best we could do.

The modern ECU both constantly adjusts the timing and monitors for knock, it should be able to advance the timing more to take advantage of the higher octane fuel.

I service many 2 stroke, and 4 stroke carbs also. I've seen the opposite effect on carbs that were run with on fuel with ethanol, their spotless inside. Its older the older fuel pumps, and carbs that were manufactured before ethanol was introduce in gasoline that o rings, and rubber components have been found harmed by the ethanol. Biggest issue with gasoline with ethanol is phase separation where ethanol will collect too much water.

I hear you... now not sure, if the fuel makers have changed something in the ethanol blends or people are learning to avoid ethanol in engines that are not driven daily since, I see fewer fuel system issues than I did at first ?

Well here's how this tank worked out. It had 12% E10 in it so I went ahead and refilled with E15 to check another tank.

I drove 412.1 miles and put in 19.02 gallons for a mileage of 21.66mpg.

Surprising to me and I'll keep updating as I go thru the next tank. Hope you find this useful.

i think people have discovered some of the anti-ethanol fuel additives that actually work.

Idk, other than your truck doesn't perform like mine. It runs great on 87 regular, far worse on premium. I think my buddies old 2019 trd v6 was the same as yours..it just ran sub par on any grade fuel.

I use non-ethanol gas in all my mowers and 2-stroke equipment. It’s available at some Quik Trip gas stations here in the Atlanta area.

It's weird I know the first 10,000 miles I broke the motor in on regular gas , the rest of my 147k mi I've used premium.
