star tron works great. best i've used for ethanol issues. it actually does increase throttle response a bit too although that might have something to do with all the water in my tank.

2nd tank of E15/Unl88 is consistent on the 1st quarter tank at 150 miles

Everyone is talking about ethanol free gas when it does not apply to your thread.

I do run E15 if it's the cheapest option around. Most of the time, Costco regular is the cheapest so I run this most of the time. Toyota says E15 is acceptable for our 3rd gens I4/V6 and so I do not notice any difference in MPG.

My only concern is just filling up with E15 and letting the truck sit for like a month with the extra ethanol content. Since I daily my vehicle, this isn't much of a problem for me.

Yeah I know. I moderate 2 forums and know the quickest way to have a thread sideways is to call out all the unrelated posts. Just let them go unanswered and move on.

I'm just posting the facts w/o speculation so someone may find it useful to them.

I definitely find your facts useful! Will continue to enjoy at least some cost alleviation with UNL88

Yeah, I don't put ethanol gas in any of my small engines or my wife's Miata that mostly sits. If the truck is rated for E15 and the mileage doesn't suffer, I'll keep running it. So far the mileage looks almost exactly as my E10 tanks look.

We only have ethanol gas here. The star tron work great. i used it in my outboards especially the 2 stroke one. Keeps gas fresh in the tank during winter to.

Getting close to the half tank mark at near 90 miles for the second 1/4 tank. I'm resetting Trip B between 1/4 tanks. This seems right on target for 22mpg. So far E15 looks no different than E10 on mileage in my truck.

I short tanked this one because I was filling my gas cans and out of town at the cheapest place around. E10 at $3.86.

E15/unleaded88 for 252.5 miles at 11.02gals for 22.9mpg. Since that's as good as this truck gets I'll continue to pump E15 when I see it at a good price.

Here are my latest results with E10. 429.6 miles and 19.01 gals=22.6mpg. I drove with a light foot on this tank but not grandma style, just paying attention and not accelerating when I didn't need to and steady/easy input on the gas pedal. I refilled with E15/Unl88.

Ethanol is a 'cheap' octane booster requiring less aromatics and refining of the basestock blend.

Envy those prices, 10% E 87 octane in $5/gallon here.

I still remember the Kum and Blow by my house selling E15 alongside the 85 octane Colorado crap gas. E15 was always 10-15 cents cheaper but nobody wanted to buy it when gas than 3 bucks a gallon. They said the E15 was like 86 octane… not sure if they can still claim that.

Meanwhile Toyota quietly changed their gas caps to say E15 is now okay. My 2013 4Runner still says E10 only.

I filled up with E15 again on June 19. My mileage wasn't doing as well as it had been. I was at 130 miles on the first 1/4 tank vs 150. My truck started having problems with starting. It was turning over fine it was just taking a loooong time to fire off. It seemed like it wasn't getting ignition. Like it was wheezing rather than firing.

The battery cables were corroded so I took them off, cleaned them, added felt pads under the terminals, and sprayed them with corrosion preventative. I didn't think about losing my trip odometer readings so it reset and I lost my miles so no way to determine the MPG.

The cleaning did not change the hard starting. I ran the tank down to 1/8 and then refilled with E10. The hard starting stopped.

This raises these questions: What if the first few tanks of E15 weren't 15% alcohol? It made no sense that it was getting better mileage than E10. I feel like this tank WAS 15% alcohol. Worse mileage and the hard starting. OR did it absorb a load of water and cause the hard starting?

Either way I'm done with this experiment. No more E15 for me. That's why I have kept a close eye on running this gas and the mileage it was giving me. If y'all want to "I told ya so" go ahead. I just thought I'd see this thru for better or worse and report the results.
