I have heard that the 1995 through 1997 Tacoma's with the 3.4 had a recall on the headgaskets. I wondering if there is a way to check and see if my truck has had the updated gaskets installed. Thanks!

Go to http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home and select join now. You have to register your vehicle but it will tell you all the work that has been done to your vehicle at a toyota dealership. Should tell you if the head gaskets have been done. Hope this helps!!

I'm already registered. I typed in my vin and nothing came up for work at Toyota dealer or about any unfixed recalls so hopefully that's a good sign. Either way I appreciate the help.

If there's nothing listed in the service history it likely wasn't done.
My service history has the ball joint recall listed for ~6 months after the 1st owner bought it.

I could be wrong about this but I recall that the head gasket recall was for the 3.0L v6 in the pre-tacomas ('95 model and earlier), not the 3.4L v6.

    ^^^^. What Mike said.

Was it a "recall"? I seem to remember it being a "special service campaign", but that was a long time ago. Could be the same as a recall.

Had this done on my 1990 4runner with 170k Miles. They ended up replacing the block, as the cylinder walls were scored.

Huh, well hopefully they will hold up. The truck shows no signs of bad gaskets at 148k but I'm hoping that it will stay like that for 300k+.

Take it to a dealer.... apparently, there's some 'tab' that sticks out that tells them the repair was made (or not).

    Many many years ago (like.....in 99), I had my 96 (3.4) replaced.

If you think about it.....Your truck probably already has the repair done. Because - the chances of you still having the original gasket after 15 years and 148k miles - would kinda defeat the purpose of why Toyota had a recall in the first place. :D
