A shop told me yesterday that late 2015 model year Tacomas are 1" higher than early 2015s. Therefore; they do a 2" lift on late 2015s and a 3" lift on early 2015s.

Has anyone heard this before? If so, does anyone know the date that the build changed? My 2015 DC TRD OR was built March 2015. I assume the all new 3rd gen 2016s were out by then or not long after.

My stock 2015 does sit higher than a co-workers stock 2015. I thought it was my imagination. Maybe there is a reason.

Nope. If you look up the part numbers for suspension like coils, shocks, etc. All the same.

Both are stock 2015 TRD Off-Road Double Cabs. His has 25,000 miles more than mine. His tires are new, mine are shot. Both stock 265s.

I'll have to call the shop guy back and ask him about it again. Perhaps I misunderstood but I doubt it.

They probably just don't want to sell you a 3" lift because they know that's where the headaches start and staying closer to 2" will save them the trouble.

Seems like everything beyond stock is problematic with these trucks. All I want to do is level and go up from 265s to 285s and that opened a can of worms in terms of potential problems. I need tires soon so I am about to say just level it and slap on some new 265s. It goes anywhere I want it to go now, in stock form.

LOL! They have a great reputation but nobody can know everything. I just used them for a new suspension on a 2004 4Runner Sport V8. They did a great job. Replaced the worn out XREAS with Bilsteins (5100 adjustable front to level) and new springs front and rear.

I'll try to get clarification on the early-late 2015s comment and see if he meant what I understood.

Depends if you have stock wheels. You can fit 33's. 285 can be too wide and have trouble fitting them but you can go 255/85R16, 255/75R17, or 275/70R17. These are roughly around 33". I had 285's on aftermarket wheels and they rub off road but fine on the street. Drove my VSC crazy on my 2011 though.

I'll ask them about that. They work on everything including a lot of vintage Toyota but I think they really specialize more in Jeep and domestic trucks.

Or maybe they're talking about the 15 TRD Pro.

That could be it...guy down the road from me has a stock '15 TRD Pro...definitely taller than my stock '15 TRD Sport.
    Jeff

edit: this being said...mine was built in Nov 2014.

Be prepared for a cab mount chop, some pinch weld hammering, removal of mud flaps, and trimming of the fender liners if you plan to go up to 285s.

october 2014 production date and newer 6 lug tacomas regardless of packages on the truck ALL got 3+1 leaf packs, where as before october 2014 production date unless you had a tow package, or had a TRD sport you got a 2+1 leaf pack (this included TRD OR with tow package). Ride height with the 3+1 in the rear was about 1in higher from the factory.

now 2016+ trucks all have the same rear ride height as the 3+1 leaf packed 2nd gens, but stock the 2016 (3rd gen) all sit 1in higher in the front.

Learn something new all the time. That would agree with my production date....has the 3+1 setup in the rear, but it's still sitting on factory rubber.
    Cheers, Jeff
