whats the cheapest/simplest/low impact way of adding 1 or 2 towing d-ring hard points to the front of a gen2 tacoma trd ? I don't really want a replacement bumper, just a hard point suitable for an emergency tow or extraction...

Why not a tow hook? They bolt right in.

hmm, I guess i have one of those already, hah.

I was just thinking a d-ring would be more secure for a more involved tow than a simple hook, but I see the factory TRD OR tow hook on my 2008 is pretty substantial, and even has a 'T' tip to discourage the strap from sliding off. I've already got a rear hitch with a D-ring so I can be the puller (or be pulled out backwards)

hokay, if/when I trash the front bumper, I'll plan on a big beefy steel thing, but I ain't upgrading just to look cool. my 08 only HAS like 25000 miles total on it (of which 9000 are mine since I bought it last year).

    Just an idea.

Maybe there's a D ring that bolts to the same location.

silly question, when you use a tow strap that has fabric loop ends with a tow-hook, do you double loop it over the hook, like a slip-knot ? or just hook the open loop as-is ?

I always did the slip knot, but don't know if there's a right way or wrong way.

I'm not sure of the suggested way but I do know that every bend/knot that is tied takes away from the strength of the strap or rope.
