Guys and gals, since the warm weather is right around the corner. Im looking for advice on places to go camping fishing kayaking etc. on weekend trips.

I would really love to find those camping site, that are right along a beach, river or lake where we can setup the rtt for a day or two...

I live in central pa so places in the , new jersery, new york, delware, nothern va, (5hrs away or less)

I also prefer places that arent overally crowded and must be pet friendly

    any ideas?

Assateague Island. We could all drive on the beach.

They only let 145 trucks on the 13 miles of beach. As long as you can get there early enough it’s never technically crowded.

South Arm Campground, Richardson Lakes, Maine. Fantastic fishing and kayak opportunities. Pretty remote, gorgeous and huge lake.

You can't camp on the beach at assateague but you can camp NEAR the beach. That fills up quickly. There's no real beach camping allowed anywhere in NY or NJ. There's ways around it, but it's not actually allowed and still a risk.

True. You aren’t technically on the beach but you camp just on the other side of the dunes. Yes it does fill up quick. Before Memorial Day and afternoon Labor Day are best for availability.

What state? Pretty much any national forest allows this. There’s a decent number of places to do this. Kinda need to narrow down “east coast” a bit.

Iv been going to lbi for years. And at the north tip is jones inlet and jones bay. On the north side of that inlet Iv seen trucks with those campers in the bed. It seems it’s possible to camp on the beach in nj. Not sure how but it’s possible

You can't do that anywhere that I know of on the North East Coast. You can do some pretty insane backcountry inland camping on trails in Northern Maine, VT and NH, even Northeast Maine and into NB but the entire coast of Maine, NH, MA and the Islands, all the way down as far as I know past MD, you are limited to State Park camping in a small bundled up area. You can be right on the beach in Salisbury State Park, but it's like camping in a parking lot with 350 others. I assume along the NJ coast and into MD it's the same thing. We used to camp illegally 30 years ago when I lived in Falmouth, drive on the beach after dark, sometimes get hassled... jeep camped on Marthas Vineyard with some locals there a bunch, didn't seem to get hassled, even had a raging beach fire.. but that was 30 years ago. My buddy had a mint original Bronco on the island, we used to fish and camp and get hammered all over the beach there.

Interested in this also, anywhere good within about 5 or 6 hrs drive of Rochester, NY? I'm new to the area, and will only be here a few months, but looking for places to camp. Have a new RTT I'm itching to use. I know there is Finger Lakes National Forest, but it's unclear from the site if there are any out west style forest roads you can just drive out and camp slightly off of--does anyone have experience there?
