just thought id add to that. i did try to get onto that beach at one point. i was told that i need a permit to fish. while your on that beach, you need to have a line in the water. im sure other than when your sleeping. but thats all the info iv gathered so far.

Yea I want to do Assateague also. Haven't been there yet. Are there any trails or offroading possibilities at Assateague?

Nope. I believe you can buy a pass to drive on the beach. But you cant camp. Probably can set up an awning and fish

Can you sleep though? I know of several places that have the same "pole in the water requirement", but you still can't go to sleep while your pole is in the water.

Edit: Also, I think it prohibits anyone in the group from sleeping. I.E. One person can't fish while the other sleeps.

It depends on what season it is. We usually go late fall and it's not crowded so no patrols during the night, really. In the summer, I'm sure it's a totally different situation.

So does that mean you aren't technically allowed to sleep?

Watch out for the ticks there. They have a ton of Lone Star Ticks. If you get bite by one you automatically develop an allergy to red meat (including pork). I shit you not. My wife got bit by one, it really sucks. We were there two weeks ago and had 3 of them crawling on our camp chairs before we could even get them completely unfolded. I don't think we are going back anymore.

Interesting. I wonder if the same plan would hold up at Assateague or the Delaware beaches.

the last time that I went to NC, the beach fleas were so small, they went through the screens on the tent. So you go in your tent to get away, and all you get it eaten. Was not good on Labor Day

I bet. But at least you are still able to eat burgers. And bacon. And steak.

Yes. And it's progressive, so your reaction gets worse over the years. I couple years ago when it first happened my wife pretty much stopped eating red meat. The doctor encouraged her to carry an EpiPen, but she would just get hives if she forgot and ate red meat. Then she started getting really bad stomach aches. Now she has trouble breathing if her salad has a couple bacon bites in it. It really sucks. We pretty much only eat poultry and fish now. I miss steaks, bacon and burgers.
