How hard was it to get it in straight? If you get it cock-eyed I imagine it would not be a good thing

If you're talking about the bushing for the needle bearing replacement, I didn't have any trouble with it wanting to not go in straight. It went in fairly easy. I was a little concerned before I started tapping it in since I didn't fully remove my strut or axle shaft. I didn't remove the dust cover or the axle shaft from the hub.

Leave the diff drop in. It helps a little bit, so might as well. People will cry "omg it only rotates the diff and doesn't drop it. You'll starve your diff of oil" but I have been on here more than I care to admit, and I have never seen anyone's diff fail because of that.

Yeah, everything is working fine now so I'm probably going to leave it alone. The bushing was my last change to the drive train for now.
I'm waiting on a set of rock rails from Stubbs Welding! It sounds like he's pretty busy right now but I'm not in a hurry for them.

Exactly. It twists more than it lowers, but it does in fact lower the differential and improve the angle. There was one guy who had one on his race truck and smashed into a rock while racing which broke his front diff and ever since then they have been exiled from TW

Oh I remember that dude! He modified his skid plate so it would work with the diff drop. Literally had two 3x3 squares jutting down like 2", and was surprised it didn't hold up to smashing into a rock at 30 mph. Freakin tard

The question is: do the aftermarket skids work with a diff drop? If not, that would be reason enough for me to not use one.

For the record, I don't have one with my 3" lift and skids - for better or worse.

For the diff drop to work with an AM skid, you would need to lower the entire skid so that it is still a flat surface, thus losing ground clearance. I wheel just hard enough that I need the AM skid's protection. I'm at 2.5ish of lift and my CV angles w/o diff drop are fine.

If it is the same one I read about on here, I don't remember him going very fast when it happened, but I didn't bother to look to look it back up. I figure the point of the AM skid is to be flat... so you can slide on it. IMHO his solution was overcomplicated and .... well, clearly it didn't work. For an AM skid to work with diff drop, you need to lower the entire skid so it is still flat.

FYI the ECGS bushing is LONGER than stock. DO NOT push it all the way in as it will bind against the spider gear.

Is this an issue with just the Off Road models or will a Sport model have the same possible problem.

Thought I read somewhere it was for some reason because of the crawl feature. Not sure why that would make a difference.

Gett'n a 3" front, 2" back, leveling kit installed Wednesday.

I didn't listen and did it with a standard slide hammer and it easily added another 2 hours worth of work. The tool is a must unless you can make it yourself

Did you guys replace the Axle Seal as well? Stock or with the one from ECGS? Looking online OEM is like $5 but ECGS one is like $20 when ordering the bushing...

    Thoughts?

I just reused my old seal. My truck only has 36,000 miles on it and it didn't look like I damaged it. Working from my garage floor like I was, I figured I'd do more damage to a new seal trying to get it in than I did to the old one taking the bearing out.
After driving it about 40 miles afterward, it appears to be functioning fine (the seal).
