Been reading the awesome content here on the forum for over a year now… thanks for all the helpful info!

Thought I would throw out an easy way to remove the infamous third brake light without removing the headliner… so long as you are replacing the OEM light. Not for the faint of heart.

Take off the outer lens and use a 3/4 hole saw (pilot drill bit removed) to carefully cut through the plastic housing around the screw heads that anchor the light… an viola the light can be removed and the anchor screws taken out through the now open light cavity in the body. This works great when replacing the light using body clips to mount the new light since there is no need to drop the headliner to install the new light.

It took me less than 20 minutes to remove the light and clean up the old adhesive.

To help avoid cutting into the body, run the hole saw in reverse to start and clear the teeth often… the plastic cuts easy. I did scratch the paint surface when I did mine, but it was easy to touch up and those areas are covered and waterproofed by the new light anyway.

I would post some pics, but I don’t know how to insert them.

    Cheers…. Hope this helps somebody!
