I am trying to figure out which engines are compatible with a '97 3.4, what does it take to switch to a 2.4/7?

I wouldn't downgrade. All that just for better MPG and you will probably end up hating the power when it is all said and done.

The engine is not working in the truck I have. Just wanted to try and figure out options. Faster to swap than rebuild.

Yeah the 3.4 is one of the best motors toyota has ever made, stick with it IMO.

    This ^^^

Or this..make sure its a 2JZ-GTE not to be confused with the 2JZ-GE which will thoroughly disappoint you and make you hate your life because you're "that poser" with the NA supra motor.

Bobbed Left front ~ Ok not really but I bought it crashed from the kids dad 4-CHEAP. Frame Swap and 04 Clip + 6" lift ~ Woo Hoo!!!
Their are 100x more dead / crashed trucks with good motors then dead motors with good trucks.

That says ALOT about the 3.4L

Does LCEngineering built an upgraded version of the 3.4. You guys can stay stock. The newer v6 motors are making 300hp+ stock.

5100's all around, 2 inch lift, polyurethane body mounts, gibson exhaust, variation of the deckplate mod, intake resonators removed
If mine blew I would be tempted to look at a GM 4.3, much more torque at the bottom end, but might be more work than I want to do at my age.
