Does anyone know of a super easy way of replacing the stock inverter in the same location with anything more powerful? Is there a more powerful inverter that fits in the same spot? I'm dying for a real inverter... but don't wan to go crazy with wires or a non-stock look.

I’d guess it’s capacity will be limited by it’s existing wiring, so an upgrade may just burn up wires and/or pop fuses.

Thank you. You know this or are guessing this? Is there a wattage limit to the wiring?

It's been a while, but from what I can remember the stock unit is very slim and I'm not sure how much head space that cavity has. Have you taken a look in there and measured it against new units? I was only in there for the 400W anytime harness so I wasn't looking at it too closely.

I don’t know what gauge wire is used, but I do know the input wire size will be a limiting factor,,, to what extent? I don’t know. You may well be able to put a slightly larger inventor in there, but I’d guess the factory wiring isn’t grossly oversized allowing for a much larger unit,,, but I could be wrong :D

what kind of wattage are you thinking? the anytime mod and 400w output has been more than enough so far, at higher wattages you do get that a/c compressor power drop feeling.

Using ohms law, you can calculate the amount of current the wires can safely handle. I would say it's highly unlikely you can safely upgrade the inverter (higher wattage) without upgrading the wires to/from the inverter AND the AC plug.

Well 400watt 120volt is like 3.3 amps upgrade will need to be made if you want real ac. You will need to look at manufacturer’s specs for the inverter you like

12 volt Power into the inverter will be critical.

30 amps at 12v is only 360 watts.

30 amp wire is Number 10. Pretty hefty stuff.

And you want more.....;-) Looking at #8 wire for sure.

Don't forget that you need to take into account the efficiency of the inverter as well. I haven't looked at the one in my truck, but maybe there's a sticker on the unit?

The reference was mostly form factor considerations. Techy stuff..I leave to others ;-)

Do you know what is in the taco OEM?

It would seem to me odd that a battery charger would care if the input was MSW or PSW.

Some chargers have a lot of "SMART", so it may be so.

i've charged some batteries off a MSW inverter before. they don't ever seem to hold the same charge.

my running theory is that the ESR of the chargers rectifier circuit is too high to allow for the steps to fully charge the smoothing caps. do i really know? no. but it sounds technically feasible.

My battery charger has a lot of inductors, and inductors do not like the harmonics you get off of a msw

I agree with this, and imagine a quality charger wouldn't work any different whether it's running off of a pure or modified sine because chargers typically use rectifiers, and rectifiers don't care about the shape of the waveform.

People run heavy gauge wire for stereos all the time directly from battery. Think 1500+ watts.

Its not hard to do or a big deal. There is definitely space under there for a bigger inverter, but you will have to check dimensions. You could put it under passenger seat if needed and just leave the existing one too. Theres also floor grommets to run grounds to the frame in the shortest path possible.

Like others said just make sure your weakest link, fuse or wire, can handle the amps.

The square wave (switched ac) is a perfect voltage transition as a sine wave is a transitional wave the actual peak equal reaching the max voltage for a small amount of time. I think it’s a sales trick to get you to buy something else. But whatever floats your boat
