EASY tweeter upgrade! (3rd gen non-JBL)

Did the same setup... can't beat that deal with a stick!

 

Has anyone installed these yet? I'm curious how they compare to the cs series

 

The tech I spoke with at Crutchfield said they would be the best option for me since I do not have an external amp.

 

has anyone WITH the JBL premium entune done this upgrade? Sounds like everyone chiming in has the non JBL, wondering if this is an improvement. Im pretty happy with the sound, but I would still appreciated crisper and cleaner highs, I would also appreciate some flipping highs from the rear with the kicker speakers mentioned.

 

I unexpectedly received the Kicker Subaru tweeters this morning, wasn't expecting them until Monday. Needless to say they are now on. Super Nice. Played some treble test videos on YouTube and they rock.

I can see how they may be enough of an upgrade just by themselves. However, I look forward to installing the Kicker door speakers and the hideaway next Saturday.

Oh and it took me about 30 min to install them. I wanted to be careful with the air bags.

Edit: Be careful when screwing the bolts closest to the window. I placed them on the speaker and then placed the speaked down. I think it can easily slip down into the hole and then there's no way to get it out.

 

Finally got around posting pictures, i used Kicker 44KSC6904 for the front and 43CSC674 for the rear. I got the kicker tweets from Subaru before changing the speakers. It sounds way better from it was before, the stock speakers are so light and made of thin cardboard, you have to give it credit for the sound it produces despite the inferior construction. I'm happy with the sound that I have with this set up, maybe amps in the future, we'll see. Best of luck to those planning to upgrade, a really easy and cheap way for obtaining better sound.

 

I must have missed it in the in install video in this thread but what are those cables with the white and green plastic for? What do they attach to? Any tips to make putting the door panels back on easily and correctly? I plan to tackle this on Saturday.

Oh one last thing....any rattle-prone areas? I got some

TIP. Do not remove the front door handle/lock cables. Simply hang the panels with a bungee and stuff a rag inside to give you clearance to work. The access cab rear panels need to come off completely so you remove the seat belt bolt from the lower corner.

 

Thanks for tip. I have a double cab so I guess the same thing goes for the rear doors.

 

I would imagine same as the front. Should be a video on oemaudio.com for the double cab. Just a step you can easily skip.

 

One more tip is when you pull out the panel towards you, you will notice those white clips, just make sure when close everything up that those white clips are attached to the door panel, some of them tend to remain on the metal hole where they attach to.

 

I just installed a set of the Subaru/Kicker tweeters over the weekend. Definitely puts some more life into the stock stereo. XM sounds much clearer.
I picked them up at my local Subaru dealer. $138 Canadian. About 10 mins. or so to install. Good little upgrade for sure. Might look at upgrading the door speakers now.

The subie tweeter upgrade is perfect. Huge improvement and I use to have some serious high end car audio systems. I have a non-JBL system and have no desire to upgrade anything else.

 

Just ordered tweeters from Ebay. Had a $15 coupon, $73.45 with free shipping. I'll let you know how they sound soon.

5 months after full Kicker install and no complaints or regrets

 

There are two tweeter sets shown on the subaru.ca website. Do you know which one you bought? Sounds like the $137.94 set. There are no part numbers or details on the website.

No pictures but I got my Kickers installed this evening...

I literally LOL'ed when I pulled the factory speakers out of the door... unbelievably small magnet and probably the cheesiest quality materials I've ever seen in a speaker--absolutely pathetic! Install was a piece of cake with the pods and wiring harnesses supplied by Crutchfield and took about 45 minutes total for all 4 doors.

Overall, I'm REALLY happy with the sound quality. Bass is tight and punchy and holds to a substantially higher level than the factory speakers produced without any real distortion--highs, while still not entirely spectacular, are much more dazzling and really brightened up the entire soundstage. I still may do the tweeter upgrade, but for 100 bucks and some change, color me completely satisfied!
