Get the Kicker tweeters noted here. They are $100, but plug and play. I would then go to Crutchfield and get the cheapest speakers for the rears and fronts, just cheap so they work. Crutchfield will give you the wiring harnesses and brackets to mount your speakers into. Just my thoughts.

Are the connectors for the 3rd gen tweeters the same as the 2nd gen?

I may be moving on from my Taco (it is a lease) and if anyone is interested I can pull the Subie tweeters out to sell. I'd take $80 shipped, only in there a couple of months.

Just ordered a pair from Amazon and used $44 in points...so out of pocket cost$52. For those that did unplug their negative battery connector, how much crap did you have to reset once reconnected?

Thanks for the find, ordered them and they came in tonight, couldn't wait to install, because it was plug and play it only took me 30 minutes. World of difference with staging and clarity, I changed out my other speakers with Rockford fosgate prime R/1, the vr169x2 up front and the r1675x2 in the rear. Looking to upgrade to the alpine halo 9 when it comes out next month and eventually a powered subwoofer. Thanks again!. FYI the tweeters are out of phase, I tested them and the speakers are not in phase with the rest of the speakers. Turns out Toyota does this at the factory, don't know why or if it affects the sound negatively, to my ears they sound awesome, since it's done by Toyota I will not be rewiring then since I feel they do it for a reason.

Mine came in today. Will try to install them tomorrow or over the weekend. After reconnecting the battery, was there anything other than the clock to reset? Audio presets?

For some reason, nobody wants to answer your question lol. I have a set of new tweeters and door speakers waiting to install, but have not done it yet, otherwise I would tell you the answer...

Thanks. Yeah, I recently upgraded from a 2004 Tacoma and there wasn’t a lot of fancy gizmos like in today’s models. Just want to know what to expect.

It's been a while for me, but I do not remember having to do much if anything. I think if your phone connects that it will get the time from that.

Thanks for the feedback. I figured if there was a lot to reset, there would have been a lot of comments/gripes about it posted.

On the radio side, I don't think there is anything to worry about. The radio preset, paired phones, etc all remained. All I can remember was that the trip odometer's were reset.

How is your sound deadening? Did you end up flattening it with a roller or hammer? If you didn't, I would suggest doing it.

Upgraded my tweeters today. Easy...about 15 min total once I got my socket and found my 10mm wrench.

Sounds great. Much cleaner audio. Used Nirvana’s ‘Stay Away’ as my reference source over Bluetooth. Much more clarity during the intro with the new tweeters.

And I did disconnect the negative battery cable. I did not have to reset anything that I can tell so far.

Still waiting custom order to arrive
So going through this thread and for a stock R2 (Hence the NON_JBL Thread) seems a no brainer.. As a newb however can someone please enlightenment me if this tweeter is actually considered an upgrade from the OEM JBL tweeter that's in the Premium package? And if it is still a one for one replacement to the JBL versions ?

Researching replacement to the JBL sub and came across this thread, and now watching the sound of my wallet going from low to high.. Thanks...
