I've done the tweet replacement and I agree, it made a BIG difference in overall sound. I just don't like how the bass from the door speakers sounds "mooshy" if that makes sense

WOW-this is excellent news and just ordered a set off of Amazon-$94 is a bit steep admittedly, but not having to buy adapters, fab adapters, cut, splice, and crimp wiring makes it not hurt so bad. many thanks for sharing as I'm trashing all the stock speakers with Infinity's in the doors and now these sweet Kicker tweeters. I am guessing I'll need an amp and would like to keep the stock head unit just because of functionality.

I've never installed an amp and am clueless? I saw someone mention an "in-line amp"? Does anyone have any suggestions that would work with the stock head unit??? Thanks for sharing this and look forward to any amp suggestions!!

Thank you very much. I just ordered a set as well. I just didn't want to have to cut and splice if I could help it.

I have JBL GTOs in all the doors and can tell the tweeter is the weak point in the system.

Did you notice much of an improvement after doing the JBL door speakers?

Yeah huge improvement. They have a super high sensitivity. That was the key to getting away with not installing an amp and subs. Just better quality sound overall.

I went 6x9s in the front and 6.5s in the rear with Metra connectors and speaker brackets. Warning the front brackets needed modifications to work perfectly.

I will openly admit this is not as good as my old system with a 1000w amp and Alpine Type R sub; however I'm not 21 anymore and don't need to shake screws out of my dash.

Good to hear! Can you send a link to the speakers you used?? Thanks for your help! Is the bass response as good as stock?

    JBL GTO939 Premium 6 x 9 Inches Co-Axial Speaker
    JBL GTO629 Premium 6.5-Inch Co-Axial Speaker

Those were the 2 sets that I used. I went through Amazon for mine; however you can find good deals from many retailers. There is a cheaper set of the GTOs 938 and 638 as well and a comparable set of Infinity speakers. They are all made by Harman Kardon anyway. Just note the sensitivity rating I wanted 91+.

Just go with which price point suits you best. The bass response is much better than stock. My wife shook her head as I was listening to Nuthin But a G Thang my favorite bass testing song. She also confirmed that it sounded way better with way more bass then promptly asked me to turn it down.

Do they get as loud as the factory speakers?? Also, how hard was the install?? I've been holding off on doing speakers because I don't want to break something putting new ones in

They are a little louder than factory speakers at the same volume. I can push them harder without distortion. Install wise it all depends on how comfortable you are with electronics/installs/working on your car.

I have done tech work for 15 years and am a Pool Maintenance Tech so I do electrical, plumbing, etc etc. So this was pretty easy for me overall. If you can do your own service on your car and know basic wiring/splicing ability you should be fine. There are some youtube videos on it from OEM Audio Plus. If that video doesn't care you I'd say go for it. If it does; just pay someone it won't be that expensive.

I've done install speaker installs in the past, just never on a toyota so I'm not familiar with the type of clips they use. How long did it take you?

Oh if you have done it before then I wouldn't worry too much. They are just normal pop/snap clips.

Took me roughly 25 minutes a door. The front 2 took extra long due to the bracket needing modification. I also took my time and took pictures just to document the work.

    A few minor things...
So I don't have the JBL package.

Do I have dashboard tweeters from the factory? I know my old Subaru only had them installed if you bought the car with the upgraded sound system.

Anyone have a link to a picture guide on how to install these? I'm guessing it's just pull the grates on the dash

Yes, you do have dashboard tweeters, they come on every model of 2016+ Tacomas.

This video has the full proceedure to take apart the entire truck for audio upgrades, I've queued it up to the spot for the dash tweeter removal: https://youtu.be/c37zgaUQsVo?t=4m1s

Used these in my 15wrx and thought they looked familiar. Installed a set in my 17. Works well and easy install.
