Have any of y'all bought & installed precut tint off of ebay or online for a 2nd gen (specifically the rear doors & window on a DC)?
There's only 1 tint shop in my town & they charge $125 for the back 2 windows & rear slider. Ebat has tint for ~$30. Thanks.

Not for a tacoma but I recently attempted it on my girlfriend's passat. It is extremely difficult even after watching 100 youtube videos. $125 for three windows is a pretty good deal.

Been thinking about doing my truck as well.. just the front windows to match the factory tint on the rears.

I did my last truck (an F150) using the eBay kits and the outcome was acceptable. When you factor in that I only paid $35 for the entire kit (2 front windows + rear glass) then it was a better deal than paying a shop. I think the only issue I had was a little bit of captured dust in a corner.

There are good videos on Youtube that explain the process. You need to make that glass surgically clean and keep your hands sopping wet to get a smooth finish.

I concur. I attempted to tint the back window of my camper shell and it was a freaking nightmare. This is one thing I'll happily pay a professional to do. Another aspect to consider is most come with a warranty against bubbling or turning purple.

6inch lift sitting on bilstein coilovers. Lexus is300 studs in front to keep stock wheels, general grabber red letters, nfab front bumper.
I had a shop do my old truck with limo all the way around and an eyebrow for 100 bucks with a lifetime warranty. Doing tint sucks

I paid $229 here for the whole truck, 30% all over & a strip on the windshield. They did a great job but I decided I want the back doors & rear window darker. It appears simple to do w/the pre-cut pieces.

Another thing to consider is putting tint on top of tint is generally no no. The proper way is to remove the old tint and put on new tint. Just another factor that will make it more difficult to do well.

Well crap. Makes sense it'd be a bad idea even though I've had decent luck doing it in the past. I have a heat gun & razor blades so if I do decide to go this route, I'll remove the 30% & replace it w/ 5%. Thanks for the tip!

From personal experience, have someone do it for you that knows what they are doing. They used the 3M material on mine and looks fantastic!

I used snap tint pre cut on mine. Did everything but the windshield, and layered the snap tint over the factory on the rear and AC windows. It's fairly easy, a second set of hands is a huge help.

I buy some every year when I pull my tint off for inspection.

Get, 3 ply, your fine. With a steamer takes me 15 mins per window to remove and replace.

A friend who owns a tint shop taught me years ago.

Steamer is $100, baby shampoo a few dollars, empty spray bottle $1, at dollar store, tint, like OP said about $30, tint tools about $10.

To remove, use the steamer, comes off like butter, totally clean :)

This is the secret to install, put about 3 drops of baby shampoo in the spray bottle. Shake it up good.

Do not let the film or the window get even remotely dry! The more you spray the better.

There are 2 ways to do the doors.

    1. Clean the glass, roll window down about an inch. Get trash bags and tape them over the whole door panel. Spray the window with spray bottle. Peel the top half of the clear backing off of the tint. Stick the tint to the window, keep spraying between the tint and the glass so that you can line up the top. If you keep it sprayed and wet, it will slide around, no problem! Once you have the top lined up, peel the rest of the clear backing off of the tint, keep it sprayed, lay the bottom portion down on the window, roll the window up, use tool to tuck the tint into the rubbers. Use the tint tool or sqeegy to get the bubbles of liquid out from under the tint. Use heat gun on LOW or hair dryer to finish it up.

    2. Method, I use. Remove door panels, you can leave them hanging, lower window about an inch, spray the window, remove clear backing from the top of the tint. Put it on the window, keep spraying it while you line it up! Pull bottom half of clear plastic backing off the tint, spray it, put it in place. No need to fight with rubbers since panel is off. Use tool or sqeegy to get liquid out. Use your heat gun or hair dryer to finish up. Roll window up, put door panel back on.

Easzy peezy! Sounds ALOT harder than it is!

The key is, when you think you sprayed it too much, you have actually sprayed it not enough, lol! The more you keep it wet the better! As long as its sprayed and soaked with baby shampoo, you can't mess it up, it doesn't stick!

    yep..
I did it. Came out great. Been a year and it still looks good. Youll want to make sure everything is very clean, use lots of soapy water. Take your time and do it in a garage if you can. A slight breeze will take the tint like a parachute

Other tip, ammonia turns tint purple. If you use Windex or similar that contains ammonia, make sure you get it all off!

I haven’t done this since high school but I used my drivers license as a squeegee to smooth out the tint and it worked awesome
