I've been eyeballing a few trucks on eBay, In all honesty, I've been borderline obsessed with watching the auctions and what they eventually go for.
I'm more interested in a low mileage 2nd or 1st Gen.
What gets me is the trucks that look like they have literally been driven off the showroom floor a month ago, with 40-80k miles, and are 20-25 years old...and sell for 15-17k.....
Are there that many of these diamonds hidden in the US???
Or.... are people getting them, dropping 3-5k on a paint job, bumpers, wheels and tires, new carpet and door panels, cleaning the bajeeesus out of it, and adding a low mileage instrument cluster???
Then the buyer gets it home and 6 months later the hidden demons come out???
Looking to see who has bought one, good or bad, or who knows someone/people who did, do, are doing this....

They've probably just been really well detailed. It's easy to take a shiny picture when the trucks just been washed and waxed

Clean and original 1980-1983 4WD Toyota trucks are pulling big money right now.

As someone who works for an auto lender that specializes in financing classic, collector, and exotic cars, I've found that eBay listings are pretty hit or miss. I've seen some great cars that were diamonds and worth every penny they sold for, but I've also seen a fair share of scammers trying to make a quick buck on a car that isn't what it's advertised to be or doesn't exist at all. Only way to know for sure what is going on with the car or truck is to have a PPI done after the auction closes to see what you're really getting. For the most part though, eBay has really cracked down on the scammers in the past couple years and you're more likely to find a reputable seller on there that is willing to work with you on simple things like that.
TRDProOne is right though, the early 80's trucks are starting to skyrocket in value more and more for a good condition example. Now's a good time to jump on one.

I'm done with selling trucks or autos on ebay... $50.00 bucks a week to advertise one now plus a commission... Those peckerwoods have gone nuts with their pricing schemes.
