Ebola Arrives in New York City...

I was a bit worried a couple weeks ago when I had to travel to Nashville. Walked into the Denver airport and as I was walking out some lady ran in there and got sick. I thought to myself if you have ebola, I'm going to kick your ass.

Then coming back we had a connection through Dallas, same place patient zero went through.

A few days after I got back home I had saw on the news a flight from Dallas to Nashville someone said they might have ebola so they held the people on the flight for hours.

Feel lucky I dodged that bullet, not sure if anything ever came of it but I still wouldn't have been happy. I'm not going to be traveling for a while, on flights at least.

The doctor in the OP also went to a bowling alley too along with the subway. I really hope they revoke all these doctors and nurses licenses that refuse to quarantine. They of all people should know better...but then again we've got people like Dr. Tom Frieden, who is the director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), saying things such as "You can give Ebola, but can't get it"

 

I'm just shy of 69 years old I have been through so many "it's going to kill you" incidents I lost count I grew up when every on said "don't play in streams you'll get polio". There are 300 million people in the US one dead guy with odds like that no one would spend a dollar on the lottery. If you want to live get a flu shot your risks are far greater of dying from that, it can be spread through the air.

That Ebola nurse seems like the "let me talk to your manager type."
She is purposely going out of her way to defy the quarantine just for some air time.

 

That statement gets used a lot to justify all kinds of things

 

She said she is following the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation of daily monitoring. But she said she is no threat to others because she has no symptoms.

"I'm not willing to stand here and let my civil rights be violated when it's not science-based," she said Wednesday evening.

States have broad authority under long-established law to quarantine people to prevent the spread of disease. But legal experts said there are differences here that could work in Hickox's favor in court: People infected with Ebola are not contagious until they have symptoms, and the virus is not spread through casual contact.

She feels her rights are being infringed upon

 

Even if she decides not to quarantine herself, do you really think the hospital is going to let her come back to her job?

 

She is setting a horrible example. I hope the State Licensing Board has a field day with her. But there will be no decisions or public discussions till after the elections.
BTW, just to clarify; a person without symptoms is not contagious. A person with symptomatic Ebola is contagious. That includes casual contact.
How do you know if a person is BECOMING contagious ? You don't. Hence the reason for quarantine.

Still not worried about Ebola. I'm more concerned about getting some other stupid virus from my wife that is a nurse in a pediatric clinic. All your little kids are teaming with bugs and they might catch a ride home.

I totally agree that there needs to be a guideline set for making sure health care workers returning from Ebola areas do not spread the infection upon returning home , and that whatever that system is does not disuade people from going over to help in the effort to contain the outbreak , I just find it interesting that on some topics it seems a person's rights to ( insert personal freedom here ) trump every argument against them while other times they do not , usually according to how someone feels about the personal freedom in question

 

If she is infected, the 3 other people living in her town in Maine will suffer the consequences.

 

You are missing the point. As a decent human being she should do the right thing and stay out of public for the 21 days. She evidently has an agenda.
