Ideally not that extreme but for all I know it's not even theirs, IE someone else has them on a plan. But like I said if not that then I have to pay for a free phone anyways.

Being poor isn't as fun as it used to be now that there's no more government cheese.

Vouchers have been proven to do just that. Vouchers do more for the poor and minority class than any others.

But the democrats oppose it at every turn in an effort to support the teachers unions. A voting block that helps keep them in power

If they would issue old school food stamps rather then ebt cards we would not see as much abuse.

Add a 'D' in front of EBT, and that's exactly what this program gives us in return.

Welfare is basically a charity we're forced to pay. Turn welfare into an actual privately run charity, this way all the celebrities and others that support it, can willfully pay for it. There would be a qualification and retention process that a private charity can institute to see who should receive benefits.

The problem is the reverse would be true if they would just do a couple of simple things here.

First, require a photo on the card so you know it's the right person. Second, limit the things it can be used for using the technology you have now.

Just to temper some of the rabble rabble going on here, keep the big picture in mind guys

Also, food and nutrition assistance (EBT, WIC etc) is about 25% of that 400Bn - There are bigger fish to fry if you want to argue about government 'waste'

And most US streets don't look like this.

    I suppose that's a thing too...

As for the photos think of debit and credit cards now that have photos, how many cashiers actually check them? My wife uses my card all the time, no identification cards checked no questions asked. For all the cashier knows i just lost my card and somebody else is using it, same idea applies to a ebt card with a photo. The retailers dont care who is actually swiping the card or what the money is ment for, they still get paid.

That too, but even to just to the first 2 things which are easy to do it would help a lot. As I mentioned earlier, it's not like 30 years ago you had to send a check to someone because it was all you had available from a technology standpoint.

A few weeks ago a guy came up to my Grandparents at Wal-Mart and offered to buy their groceries on EBT if they gave him cash. Sleeze-bag.

I work in retail and I can't believe how many people actually have these cards. And the shit you can buy with them. Candy and soda should NOT be an option.

I'll agree that it doesn't happen much with those 2 examples, but doesn't mean it shouldn't. Point is at least try to catch the low hanging fruit.

Ignoring the hundreds of arguments against this on social grounds the economics seem to really strike a nerve with you guys... The solution is to make the system more expensive? On account of a (republican estimated) 1.3% fraud rate. In a system that keeps 4.7 Million households out of poverty...

Talk about solving a problem that doesn't exist.

I am okay with people doing drugs, in most cases I think they should be made legal. My reason for wanting people who collect welfare passing a drug test is simple, if people who work for a living who pay the taxes that go to welfare recipients have to take and pass a drug test to earn their living, then people who do not work and collect handouts should also have to pass a drug test to collect it! :D

My thought on it is you do not need alcohol, tobacco, marijuana etc to live. Therefore why should I as the taxpayer subsidize that?

I recently read of a state, I think Utah but I could be very wrong, tried the testing. Yes it cost some money but it weeded out about 30-something million in benefit abuse.

What I would think too is make it a lifetime loss of benefits if you are caught. Sometimes the punishment itself is enough of a deterrent for most.
