    The better coast
With the whole medical costs, its a problem of people not taking care of their body's, which happens on both sides.

I'd rather give medical care to the person who takes care of there body but can't afford it then those who don't exercise a day in their life, pay 100k (for example) in to Medicare and then get 500k worth of medical benefits out of it because they haven't been taking care of their body as they should. Goes both ways my friend ;)

Also, your financial life should be fully examined to find things to cut before you're able to receive benefits. If you're paying for cable tv, a cell phone, etc, your ass shouldn't get a dime of tax money. Life is about choices. If you make stupid ones, YOU should pay for them. Not me!

THIS WHOLE COUNTRY NEEDS SOME DAVE RAMSEY. RIDICULOUS!!!!![/QUOTE]

I know some people like this with a brand new car, premium cable, a $180 phone bill, and a trip to the nail salon once a month to. Thing is she gets payed off tips and only reports that she makes min wage to the gov. So she "qualifies" for many different benefit programs. She thinks its okay to receive them because in her eyes she's low income and pays taxes to the gov. although she only pays taxes on 1/3 of what she makes. On top of it all she lives with her boyfriend who has a decent job and they can't get married because they'll go "broke" if they do. She also has a child and because she files her taxes as a single mother she gets a tax return of around $4500 each year and only reports to the irs that she makes 10-12k

So I'm supposed to take your profession into consideration but it'll remain unnamed. Got it.

And the poverty rate hasn't changed despite vast growth in wealth disparity. Got that one too...

Tell me more about your point?

    Nope.

I can forgive someone who is truly in dire straights and needs help, if they perhaps went over their limit a bit (40-50 bucks). People who have $40K trucks, section 8 housing, satellite TV playing on a big screen all day, and then use food stamps, I'm already upset with them. I see it all the time with a job that takes me into people's homes. To basically steal an extra couple full CARTS of food, as the article describes, that's not excusable.

My friend was laid off and on unemployment when she went to school full time, after not being able to find another job after several months. In my eyes that's different. I went to college with a girl who got some assistance (not sure what) but she still had a job and went to school full time.

I always worked 30 hours a week or more in college. My last year I worked 2 jobs totalling 50 hrs or more a week.

While you gave more specifics than I did, I agree about what your money is spent on. If I don't have the money to afford cable, going out, buying music then I don't do it. That's how it should be.

I never asked anyone to take my profession into account. I was just making the point that a lot of people live in their little bubble instead of seeing what really happens in the real world. Those of us who live it are sick and tired.

My grandfather came to this country with nothing. Was a barber, working 7 days a week, making nothing. WITHOUT government handouts!!! My dad and uncle worked hard in school and made something of themselves to become middle class, which is where I am today.

Welfare is (supposed to be) about keeping people out of poverty. NOT income disparity. Enough of the Democrat talking points. One doesn't have anything to do with the other. Income disparity does need to be addressed, for sure. But the problem that will sink this country is debt. Plain and simple.

I agree. It's different. Especially if they've worked their whole lives, paying into the unemployment benefits that whole time and were on the subsidy for a short period of time.

However, it's still a lot of money I don't really believe should be spent. Not being able to find ANY job and a job you'd be will to do are 2 different things. I had several friends collect unemployment for a long time. Not because they couldn't find work. But because they couldn't find work that made it worth their while to turn down unemployment (wage wise). To them, it made more sense sitting at home, applying for jobs they thought they should apply for, instead of swallowing their pride and taking something they thought was beneath them. That's wrong IMHO. If you can work, regardless of the job, you get off your rear and work. Period.
