    That’s a good call.

Next time I may pull the fuse.

Or you could learn how to drive... if you need 4x to keep safe on a dirt road then you need to slow down. I get the idea of having it on “just in case” but it’s drivers preference. It’s like any other nanny system our trucks have. @MMoreno16 was likely driving over his head in an overweight vehicle and who knows what his driving background is.

Super glad you all walked away relativley unscathed and hope the next build is as beautiful as the first, but don’t try to use this as a “this is why I use 4x speech.” He was driving over his head.

If the Taco has one thing going for it they are safe as hell. This is like the 3rd bad accident I’ve seen one in where everyone was fine.

Read above. That logic makes about the same amount of sense as you ripping your ABS wire and then driving on the road. It’s a proven system. It works. If you actually lived by your “added control” statement then you would run ABS on the road and kill it on the dirt. That’s what a kill switch is good for.

I also should have specified and said the Tacoma 4.0s. I’m not familiar with the T4R system. That’s what your specialty is.

Agree on this...I think many shops find this mod to be rather easy if they do this for a living as well. A local TW fab guy by me wanted $50 more than a professional shop charged with quality materials, so sometimes it pays to deal with the resident pro.

It all depends on the situation. The faster you’re driving the more advantageous 4x4 becomes for the added grip.

On that note, driving fast is a skill. Just because you have a truck that can do it doesn’t mean you’re capable of driving that quickly.

2wd or 4x4, the smart thing to do is drive a little slower on a trail you’re not familiar with rather than going faster and hoping the truck will handle it.

Honestly, that's a solid safety tip I never really considered. Obvious with going uphill to engage 4wd...but in dangerous decents its not a bad idea either. I also have my abs disengaged although from time to time it comes back on as I don't like getting some crazy brake check on the road at highway speeds when its dry out.

We absolutely can hug it out man! I love you guys, but hold my beer for a second.

I was not implying that you or Danny can’t drive so I apologize if that’s how it was interpreted. I am saying that it’s a driver’s preference and a skill set to be able to do either one. I don’t use 4x on trails that I don’t need it for a few reasons. 1) I like the challenge. It makes you as a driver choose better lines and really understand your vehicle and it’s limitations. I compare it to riding 4-stroke vs. 2-stroke. You might not get this but my motorcycle guys will. You have to ride a 2-stroke. You have to keep you momentum. You have to choose good lines. A 4-stroke you can kind of be lazy on and twist a throttle. Most of the time, it’ll get you out of trouble, sometimes it’ll put you in it. 2) it’s fun to lock your truck and slide around. I’m only saying where situations allow it. I.E. not blind corners, etc.

All of what we are discussing is a preference and a skill that is learned/taught. You may have been taught to use 4x all the time. You weren’t taught to use both of your feet while driving which is something that I believe should be done. That doesn’t make you wrong, or me right.

This is the dumbest fucking thing you’ve said in a long time, and that says a LOT. Do you realize how conflicting these statements are? You just spent the previous paragraph writing about variables that are out of our control and thats the reason you use the systems that your truck has. Your follow up statement is reguarding your arrogance of how you believe you have the skill set to drive a vehicle, one of which is WAY over its GVRW, on the street and not need one of the most proven systems for road use??? At least the lack of 4x on the dirt is more likely to just harm myself or any idiot who rides with me. Not cause an accident involving numerous people at far greater speeds.

Again, I wasn’t trying to directly insult you by saying you can’t drive. We’ve wheeled together once, how am I supposed to know that. I’m saying that the driver who hit the tree was likely driving over his head in a vehicle with a lot of weight. Who I am though, it could have been one of the variables you mentioned above. Not disagreeing with that but it is absolutely a drivers skill that could have prevented it just as well as maybe usin 4x. Or, just slowing down a little. It’s also a mindset; just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean it’s dumb.

@desertjunkie760 & @dtaco06 go to your corners, have a cup of coffee, and come back to this in an hour. You're both on the same team, just coming at different view points.

Ps: Danny, Shane is a much better driver than you're giving him credit for.

You know nothing about my experience or my background in anything other than I don’t know about 4 Runners, which I admit.

It is different because your 4 Runner is thousands of pounds over what it was designed to carry and Jettas now have that technology because it works. The same can be said about not running 4x in the dirt, it’s called experience or even better... the willingness to obtain it.

No worries though, I’ll bring beer for you next trail run.

So your saying, If I work out hard, my abs will help with my braking? They didn't see that in my Crunch fitness membership?
