Hello, Anyone damage the c-clip while trying to remove the cv axle? I tried pulling mine out but wouldn't budge so I gave up. Was going t have a shop do it but now I'm wor ride the c-clip might get damaged. Are they supposed to come out like? I have seen several youtube vidieo and they seem to come out easy and go in easy.

I see, ya pry bar didn't work for me. Did this damage the c-clip? I want to use the same cv axle as I only have 12,000 miles on my truck.

    Thanks for the reply

I had to smack it with a hammer to get it back in.

This is what I used to get the axl out. Some come out easy, others not so much.

It was slightly nicked up. But not damaged. The c clip was fine in the end.
Make sure you put something in there so the tool doesn't drop in there (paper towel, egs uses plastic).
The other key is to not drive the new ecgs one in too far.

I worked in 2 , 2 hour sessions. 4 hours taking my time.

A slide hammer , which you can rent works similar to this

Vibes are gone and no leaking. I used a new seal. Buggered the old one getting it out.
I don't think people realize how much play is in there until you see the 2 side by side.

My advice. Get everything in advance (tools, fluid) and go step by step.
Take your time and just ask TW if you get stuck.
    Good luck,
    az

No, some is going to leak out. Just fill the amount that leaked out. Maybe 1/2 quart?
Some will come out, but not too much. Gear oil is like 16.95. So that should cover it.

This worked really well to get the new seal to seat correctly.
    I think it's 2" coupler/pvc

Did you get it yet? Make sure you're prying against the metal shown on the bottom of the 2nd pic in post #11. Pry, turn the axle 1/6th of a turn and pry again. Keep indexing it and prying and hopefully you'll hit the happy spot. Mine wouldn't budge until I indexed it a few times.

You could have rented the tool for free.

The pvc is a better option in my opinion to install the seal

Thanks, ya I kept turning but I was using a pry bar so I wasn't getting even pressure. After 30 minutes I gave up ad I was afraid I was going to brake something. It's in there pretty tight. Not sure how much a shop will charge but I don't want to try it again, at least jot with my luck. ..lol

Ya I know, after I went to oriles and seen all the tools they rent out, I kicked myself! Was thinking about returning them to ecgs but by the time I pay shipping I probably won't save any money
