Eco Drive for the Tacoma? Why doesn't Toyota have this feature?

    yes they do and also have lots of problems

    Well sort of the ideal was to act as a governor. When the engine had no real load the fly wheels kept it going the mechanical mechanism held the exhaust valve open and it basically free wheeled with no compression. There was no intake valve train it was held closed by a weak spring as soon as the engine slowed the exhaust valve closed then the intake stroke pulled the intake valve open against the weak spring. This was fine for some thing that only turned a few hundred RPM. Once there was a load on the engine it fired every revolution. I had one of the damn things it weighed about 250# and developed about 3 HP. I saw a 16 HP fully restored one not long ago it weighted 2600#
