    I didnt read the whole thread but would it not work to stay on all the time if you swapped out the button for a physical on/off push button switch or even a carling style?

    The ECU needs to see a "pulse" after vehicle startup to activate the ECT. Putting in a switch that is switched "ON" 24/7 won't trigger it.
    Go hold your ECT button in while starting your truck. It won't activate.

    I'm looking at building this. I looked at the whole thread an found the following. Do I need more to accomplish this?

    Parts
    12V relay (see below)
    Pac TR7 module (see below)
    16 awg wire
    3m T-tap connectors
    Relay connectors
    (other wire maintenance consumables...zip ties, wire tubes, Heat Shrink, etc)

    upload_2017-8-29_15-8-24.jpg
    How To:
    1)Wire up Relay;
    Pin 86: Ground
    Pin 85: -->blue wire of Tr7
    Pin 30:--> Pink wire on ECT button (pin 4)
    Pin 87:--->White/black wire on ECT button(pin 1)

    From TR7 - Blue wire to SPDT pin 85;

    Finally got it done. Thanks to OP!

    Now, I need to make a switch that disable this when my wife is driving the truck. She hates driving on ECT mode for odd reason.

    I tried unplugging pin 87 and it seems to not activate ECT at engine start up. Figure if I put a switch in between pin 87 wire to switch it on when I'm using the truck, and off when my wife is using it, it'll work for the both of us. I know ya might say that this defeat the purpose of doing anytime ECT mode! Well, it had always been this way with our 1st gen! It'll stay on if we leave the ECT switch on, and off if the switch is off. Kind of wish this mod was like that. Still a win, win situation for the both of us because with the additional switch installed, we'll just have switch it off and on once! Better than me having to always switch it on everytime I'm driving the truck. As of now, she's switching it off everytime when shes driving it lol. I'll let her have a taste of it.

    Glad I could help:hattip:
    It's really a simple mod and now with my OV tune having it come on every time is icing on the cake :D

    Ironically I did this exact improvement the other day, I intercepted the wire going to the ECT momentary press (in my harness picture above it's the yellow wire) and stuck a toggle switch to the left of the BSM button in that triangle piece of that panel. Essentially in the "ON" position ECT kicks on. In the "OFF" no ECT.

    It's unlabeled because then people won't know what it does, and it only matters during that brief moment when the unit gets the pulse, so you can flip it after the truck is started and it doesn't do anything. That way if I get warranty work done I can disable it before I go in, and since it's unlabeled they will likely leave it alone and not know what it's doing unless they pull the dash and trace the wires.

    I just like having defeat switches on my stuff...

    Here's a basic toggle that will work.

    I laugh about it, but I'm really really considering one. Our neighborhood already floods at the entrances, so while my house is fine I can't leave now.

    He's referring to HIS yellow wire. Not on the truck. Looks like it's the one going from pin 87 of relay to pin 1 of ECT button. Intercepting it will just stop the ECT from completing the circuit AKA not activating it

    Correct. The one off my relay. Pretty sure it's 87 as well.

    upload_2017-8-29_15-9-58.jpg

    To be clear the "yellow" is in the picture is just from my own harness, it's not one from the truck.

    At no point in this mod did I cut any wires in the truck, just tapped into them.

    Yeah, they are a rip but only place off the top of my head I knew was in stock. There are other flea-bag shops around that can be had for cheaper
