My fuel economy is better since I'm not having to constantly throttle correct to downshift into an appropriate gear.

No way, that's impressive. Once I turn on the ECT on my '98, the fuel economy goes to shit. I only use it when I'm entering the freeway or accelerating.

    Okay UPDATE*****
    Weirdest thing,
Started/drove fine after I ran a few errands. On the ~3rd start cycle I put it in gear and got a check engine/trac control light on.:frusty:
Truck still drives normal.. so I unhooked battery and did a quick reset, All clear.

I have unhooked it from the purple "start signal" wire until I can re-evaluate it.
Not sure if ECT is turning on too soon before the truck fully starts, or if there is some data in that start wire(shouldn't)
I am going to try to activate it a different way.maybe tag off nuetral light so every time I put it in gear ECT turns on.
Back to the drawing board... SOO close!

I am pretty sure the ECT is coming on too soon to give the truck a chance to "boot up".
Next, I'll try and tap off the N or R light to activate it once I put in gear. Fingers crossed

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
    hell yeah. subd

have you considered something like this?

    http://www.wolstentech.com/products/timedelayrelay/tdr-m.php

I have seen this product used in the FRS/BRZ/GT86 community for automatically disabling traction control at startup. As far as I know all people who tried this were successful and no codes were thrown as this it simulates the button press and both the delay before activation and the length of the "press" is adjustable

A timer activated button press isn't tough to wire up.

Assuming that at least some sort of power and ground is present at the switch, and at least one wire going to the switch changes voltages on power up, it's completely plausible to do this in a male-female plug-n-play setup.

You may end up with turning it on and off each time you go thru N or P if you go there .

I would imagine a time-delayed relay would solve the problem - that's what I had in mind for doing this same mod. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Miniature-cy...d=1476849615&sr=8-2&keywords=time+delay+relay . Set it to 10 seconds and all should be good.

// edit - @Mosquisite beat me to it.

Pretty sure you want terminals 1(White/Black) and 4(Pink) on a time delay.

Nice work! Did you install a diode (reverse biased) across the relay coil? If not, you'll be introducing a rather large and potentially damaging voltage spike (flyback) on the start signal pin every time the relay de-energizes. We've already seen how sensitive these trucks are to electrical changes from stock.
Just a word of caution, not trying to piss in your cornflakes!

Here's a link if anyone is interested..

What's weird is, the oem switch has ground on one side and 12V on the other.
Maybe the switch has a relay or latch/unlatch function.:notsure:
I wish I could find what terminals 2 & 3 are supposed to be. It's not in the transmission or lighting section of the service manual.

Judging by the diagram you posted, it looks as though the +12V is supplied through a pull up resistor. So when you apply the ground through the switch, it just pulls the line low (not much current draw). I was actually surprised that the OP was able to draw enough current to energize the relay through the circuit. I'm not sure how much that micro-relay coil draws, but the relays I use on a regular basis draw approx. 200-300mA.

    So that's what that is?
The foglight relay/switch is powered the same way. I haven't pursued the "anytime mod" further, cause I had no idea what was going with the 12V from the ECU.
