Anyone think it would be possible for the dealer to mess with the computer and have the ECT power come on by default with the truck? Then you would just turn it off when you want.

Probably since it is programed. I never use it myself. Not in any hurry to get anywhere.

Yep, in the hilly town I live in it feels so much better and smoother with ECT on. It always downshifts to early on hills without it.

Mine's basically an office on wheels, I drive 50k+ miles a year. I have a computer desk bolted to the front inner passenger seat rail. Also has a Lund tri-fold tonno cover to carry catalogs and product samples. Eventually want to get a Leer or ARE camper top with side fold out windows.

I've wondered about wiring up a second switch to the shift knob so it comes more naturally to hand. My 1st gen had the OD cancel switch on the side of the shift handle and that was pretty handy. I used that all the time. The current location on the 3rd gen pretty much requires taking eyes off the road to poke the right switch.

It would be pretty easy to come up with a circuit that cycled relay contacts across the switch 30 seconds after startup. There are a lot of sports car drivers that turn off stability control every time they get in the car (I am not one) so I wonder if anyone has made a dongle for that "need" that would work for your need.

Personally, I have found that the truck is adapting to my driving style and the shifting is far better than it was when I first bought it. Nowadays I don't feel the need for ECT power mode often. However, for throttle response in curves, I still prefer power mode.

I'm driving in HEAVY traffic every day. It drives much better in ECT power mode. I also wonder if I'd get better mileage in ECT full time. +/-17MPG now.

Yes, 2.7L, 20.5 last time checked. Wish it would stay "on" when pushed and not default to off each time truck was turned off.

they will never do anything that lessens the gas mileage including some future reprogramming of the auto shift points.

It lets you use it right away?

I had a Subaru Outback with "Sport Sharp" mode and you could not use that until it was warm or it would just beep at you. It was similar to the ECT button, held gears longer and adjusted the drive-by-wire throttle so it was much more responsive.

I am going to try this. Using this - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017C3158I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A33BABJHV27JHT

Since the ECT Switch is momentary, I figure if you utilize a on-off switch it will stay on until you turn it off by pushing the switch. I agree with just about every thread on this topic, for people like me that drive in hilly areas 75% of the time, plus the addition of wheels and tires the truck drives so much better with the ECT On.

If anyone has any suggestions on a OEM Switch to use here let me know! Before I found the switch on Amazon I was going to use a OEM Toyota Fog Light switch, but i'd like to have a switch that is OEM Toyota and has a Similar Description to ECT.

How much are y'all willing to spend to have ect turn on automatically?

I'm thinking of making a harness that sits between the switch and the wiring behind it that will see the truck power up, wait a few seconds, then "press" the button and let off.

Replacing with an on-off switch might work, but it might also piss off your ecm. Anybody tried holding down the button for an extended period of time? Should give out the same result, whatever that may be.

I've used it, it improves the driving experience but I don't want to have to push a button every time I get in my vehicle just to keep it from performing like a Ford Festiva

I was going to use this method as well.. so I held the ECT button while starting it. Did nothing.. the computer is looking for a momentary signal. Not an constant on.. so I don't think your idea will work. I hope I'm wrong though!

You need a circuit that waits a few seconds then sends a single momentary signal. Like a delayed momentary relay or something.. anyone,?

Has anyone else found it to be a bit difficult to drive in ECT at lower speeds? Like the improvement in power but it seems to want to leap forward when gently pushing the pedal in traffic.
