Yeah... the size of wires on the switch cannot handle the current. It's only meant as a momentary switch (like for a garage door opener). If you want to use it for anything more, you'll need to hook it up to a relay.

It's cool, man... a learning experience. Just be glad the only damage was to the switch.

Now I am second guessing myself with the front camera idea that I too am planning.

OEM 2020 camera...when pressed, the switch it is momentarily...all the “magic” to keep it on is done somewhere else. Right?

I might wire my second button to my radar detector mute button.

I've read some users on here have been successful in wiring up the second switch to their front camera. Use the search function (which isn't always user-friendly) or fish through the pages on this thread. It's here.

Thanks for sourcing the connectors. Just got my txl 20g (I don’t do a lot of wiring so I bought a 25’ ea multi colored pack from wire barn) I also assumed the wire was 20, definitely not 18

Has anyone experienced any of their wires “catching” or getting snagged when they shift? A lot of sharp edges under the boot. Just wondering.

Not if you route it correctly- to the left of the shifter.

Any specific way. Or just route it to the left?

Old school Passport 9500. The idea would be to place the hardwire smart cord behind the head unit after soldering a pig tail to the the leads for the mute button.

I though about pinning out the mirror tap, but for $25, the smart cord is an easier solution.

I have a post in here maybe 1/2 way of this thread that shows how I routed it (pictures) and there was another that posted a picture that they actually drilled a hole to take a Christmas tree pin/zip tie on the left back corner of the shifter box.

I followed the factory harness (the yellow line) zip tied in 2-3 spots. The shifter harness is the red line.

No special pin crimper so I used needle nose pliers. The 2 pins that I doubled up I also soldered to secure. soldered those wires to Meso’s pigtail E07F4A98-9EAD-4B35-9AAE-DFE4D1CD766B.jpg
And finished the beat sonic front camera harness
    CB136C55-734F-4DA4-AC6A-9FEA0C2964F8.jpg
dash is apart now to hook it up and test…

fuck yea, it works :bananadance: and since the beat sonic front cam switch is also a momentary I don’t have to hold down Meso’s shifter switch. 1st press activated front camera- 2nd press switches to rear camera- 3rd press turns it off.

When I start to do my overhead console switches I’ll move the beat sonic switch up there and free up a spot on the center console.

Can you give me the part number for the female pins? I purchased and received connector R11 90980-12551 for my front camera mod. I did not know it came without pins.

I don't know if these will work but the female connector looks like the connector i received except in color. i would like to give it a shot.
