i am with you , i have all the parts to do the mod but you have to peel back the covering over the wires to get to the wires. do not like doing a hatchet job for the reason you describe.

Well long story still kinda long, I decided to hit the ECT button for my morning commute a few days ago. Wow. Not even kidding. It drove how I expected it to from the beginning. I actually was able to pass a guy with a move that I hadn't thought was possible with this truck, no problem. It almost seems like regular driving mode is to appease the EPA and the ECT button is Toyota's wink wink mode. ECT/24/7/365. And it's free!![/QUOTE]
same here but others here do not like it or can not tell the difference. you said it well "regular driving mode is to appease the EPA"

Doesn't ECT mean electronically controlled transmission? Isn't it electronically controlled in some way regardless of the button? By pressing the button are we turning something off or engaging something new?

The whole thing has me somewhat confused. I agree it's more responsive with the button pushed but gas mileage is worse. I also read some info suggesting the system learns how you drive. If you push the button each time does it still learn or are we turning off the brain?

I don't know either. Probably, oncoming traffic is just too close to safely start a turn anyway if you need to gun it.

On relatively slow surface streets, I have no need for the overdrive gears if i'm only going over to the hardware store. This just keeps it from even trying for it.

I used Posi-Taps and it's totally reversible in just a few minutes. These are all I ever use now.

No wires were harmed in the making of this mod.

I totally agree, but I think Toyota sort of had to make a deal with the EPA devil to set ECT Power up as a permanent "owner opt-out" setting so that they could claim their higher mileage ratings. They want it to be your decision to drive without the mileage "enhancements" available when ECT power is off. :jerkoff:

This way, Toyota can always say they tried to get you to drive sensibly, but you refused.
