Will the ecu from a 2004 work in a 1997 tacoma? Or are they different ?

    used to have - 99 2.4L I4 5 lug & 04 prerunner v6
if "every" equipt. option on the vehicle is exactly identical, and I mean "every" equipt. option, then it "might" work if the sensors are not different.

off hand I would think it wouldn't work because the 01-04 trucks had upgrades made to them and I suspect that included the sensors and ECM but I cant say for sure.

I think its more likely to have a 96-00 ECM be a better match

Ok that's what I was thinking because in 04 the throttle was drive by wire and there's a sensor at the ps pump too that mine doesn't have
