Once I removed the short to 12 volts and cycled the key, the a/c amplifier started working.

Was the ecm powered up when you shorted it .....if not that may not of had a direct to ground...and may of done nothing...

If these were that easy to fry......you'd see a lot more of us needing them....
especially me .....its only a matter of time.....

I want to say it wasn’t but it’s been two months since this happened.

again I've seen many say their ecm is fried.....and from what I've seen last half decade here...
maybe 1 or 2 out of 100 it is......

usually turns out to be body shorts and bad grounds.....
frayed wires in 5vz engine compartment are fairly common....
all that stuff is old and crispy....

All the taco DIYs should have a powerprobe for that inevitable day....
but I suspect ....thats what got you into trouble....

Reason it flashes red when u power up that tip....

Put the old crank sensor back in and I’m back to my issue of crank hard/won’t start. But bump starts just fine and drives normal.

What does “crank hard” mean”? It turns over but slowly?

It turns over just fine but won’t fire off is what I was meaning by hard cranking. Only when it’s cold start. After it’s warmed up it starts right up no problem. It’s got a slightly rough idle but doesn’t die so I’m going to clean the IAC

Just a couple of things to check which you may already have, when the key is in the on position does the check engine light come on? if not, issue with diagnostic portion of computer (light is illuminated by computer) second thing is the computer properly mounted in the firewall clip? this clip is a metal pinch type that clips on to the case of the computer. This keeps the case of the computer grounded to the truck and holds it still, probably not your issue but things to check. I have a spare (my old one) but unfortunately its for 3RZ Auto.

Appreciate it! Yeah the computer is secured correctly. The check engine light is on when the key is on but goes out when started, which I believe is normal for many vehicles.

Just an update. Got plugs and wires installed this weekend along with a new downstream O2 sensor, got a bump start from a buddy and it ran great. Took it over to another friends shop had him hook his scan tool up and everything checked out, sensors all in range, fuel trim was good. But cranks forever before it wants to finally start. I’m wondering if my timing could be off one tooth because at idle it sounds like it’s been cammed with a lope sound butclears up fine when you come just above idle

I found a computer for mine at a junkyard using this website, it's a large database of salvage yards. https://www.car-part.com/
